Cartman: I'm not bringin' in food for poor people, SCREW THEM!

Wendy: Don't you want to help those who are less fortunate?!?

Cartman: Hey you guys, do you hear something? I, I think I hear the flower children calling.

Wendy: This is the one time of year you're supposed to care about people who can't eat!

Cartman: Isn't it enough that I pay taxes?!? What about the poor houses that, that I pay for?!?

Wendy: Many would rather die than go to those places!

Cartman: Well then, perhaps they should, and decrease the surplus population!

...I think I've done it once or twice (given change)

What about these kids on the corner wearing their sports uniforms with signs that read "Help us go to Nationals!"? in the meantime, their parents sit back and watch them while talking on thier cell phones. I HATE that. I'll give money to the homeless way before I give any money to those kids. I used to go door to door to door to sell chocolate bars and stupid crap. At least wash some freakin cars! (oooh, my first use of the mad face)

Amen to that. It's even worse when it's your neighbors. The family next door to us have two girls ages 7 and 9 who go to a local private school. It seems like they're always coming to our door to sell candy or get donations for something. I love the girls to death, and I like to be on good terms with my neighbors so I always end up buying from both of them. But it does get a little pricey (not to mention fattening) at times.

So Mrs. JB, what you are saying is that you do not feel strongly enough about your convictions to alter your behavior? Why frustrate yourself by denying your true feelings with your behavior?

Aren't you the one who was afraid to tell a secretary not to chew gum?

People do various things they wouldn't otherwise to maintain good relations.

Amen to that. I've sold soooo much junk as a kid.

    - chocolate bars
    - cold plates
    - wooden scroll calendars (*knock-knock* "Hello, would you like to buy a scroll calendar to support the ski team?" "Huh? What's a scroll calendar?" repeat)
    - peanuts (nothing is more pathetic than going door to door selling peanuts... nothing)
    - chocolate covered almonds
    - car washes
    - beer bottle drives

a friend of mine in tuscon az told me that the bums there are now too lazy to even ask for spare change, so they made a contraction.... "spa'nge" i couldnt belive it. at least in austin a few of the homeless try to sell their newpaper, The Advovate. ive never bought one but its good to see them at least trying to take part in some sort of commerce rather than just begging. i never mind helping people out, but from the short conversations ive had with bums, it seems they all actually DO smoke crack and other sorts of stuff. i wouldnt give my brother money if i knew he was going to spend it on drugs either so i definantly dont need to give a bum a few dollars just to clear my conscience and tell myself im a good person for the day.

I'm saying I feel more strongly about staying on good terms with people I like than about not buying candy.

They may not be buying crack with it. If they are it's not my business. If I have extra change to give, I give it. If I don't I don't. What these people do with it once they have it is up to them. I wouldn't attempt to control their life. I've also given food to them and not money. Either way I don't attempt to guess what they are going to do, once they have the change.

I get approached at most red lights and gas stations by beggers.. I usually give them change if I have it, no skin off my hide.. I try to give them food if I have it, it's pretty easy to tell if someone is really needy or not by the look on their face after you give them a takehome box from some restaurant.

I give. Just about everytime. Maybe a quarter or maybe a 10 spot. The dude on the receiving end may be a junkie or may be a guy out on his luck and trying to find his feet. He may buy baby food or he may buy a rock. Whatever he buys he will find some relief in it. It may suck and I may be an enabler and I may be "part of the problem" for the junkies but if I have it to give I will. Mine is not to judge. I know...not very "right winged" of me but it is my practice nonetheless.

I'm waiting for a Pace Picante commercial where they replace "New York City" with "France"

OMG! You ARE Trader Jorge!! I knew it

You know, Ms B, I have thought that, too. When Heath hit the scene, Jorge disappeared for awhile.

Now we have confirmation. Who else but Jorge himself would consider it flattering to be called Trader Jorge?

I saw some guy with a sign: "Why lie? I'm a drunk".

I wanted to buy him a 40 for being honest.

    I'm j/k about the 40 part.

Hey glynch, don't hate me 'cause you ain't me.

Please resist the urge to label any supremely articulate, clear thinking, politically informed poster as 'Trader_Jorge'.

I usually ignore them but give them a dollar two every once in a while if I feel the person is sincere. I saw some guys who had signs that said "why lie I want a beer" this is in Lubbock they approached my car at a light my window was down he said "how bout it" I said flat out "you have to be kidding me."
