Before Eddie Griffin had problems with the law and all, who would you have liked to see him traded for?

Personally, I think Rockets and Wizards should have done a swap with Eddie and Kwame. Both were not working out for their teams. Under JVG, I think Kwame could have been a defensive beast. We'd finally would have, instead of Cato, someone tall and quick enough to gaurd the Duncans, Garnetts, and Nowitzkis of the NBA.

Simple... we could have had Shard. But CD's infinite wisdom cheated us out of that.

I would have been ok with an EG for Eric Snow trade, straight up. We wouldn't be having the problems we're having now.

Honestly, I was against any rumored EG trade that popped up before his problems started. It's easy to say the Rockets made the wrong decison now but at the time I wouldnt have traded EG for Rashard, Kwame or SAR. Of course now I would have taken any 3 of them but who saw all of Eddie's current mess coming?

I must admit that too. I really didn't want to trade Eddie. The Rashard trade made me think for a little bit, thinking on how it would be cool to have him back in his hometown. But for what we traded for Eddie, and for how much "promise" he had, I couldn't bare losing him. Now...... :(

Since we could have traded him after his rookie year for good talent, you at least can't fault the Rockets for making the picks to take him, or by not working him out first. The fault is in having him around for a whole year to fully evaluate him (and to get an in-depth look at his character and issues), but not moving him when you could have in return for a great talent like SAR or Shard. So I don't know if that makes the Rockets look better, or worse for the situation.

    Let's face it.

Rashard Lewis returning to play in his hometown would be some cool novelty.

But it would not, at this time in his career, and IMHO, have near the same effect, buzz, or pay-off as Clyde Drexler returning from the northwest to help us win a 2nd title.

I'm afraid some have that pipe dream a little too often about "Shard."

Hindsight is 20/20, so it's easy to speculate now, and criticize the geezers in the office for not swapping EG for RL. Given the circumstances, money lost, etc... it even stings a bit.

    But who knew?

Playing the ultimate hindsight game, this is what I would have done:

-in the 2002 draft, offer Eddie Griffin for the first round pick of any of the teams that had a higher lottery number than the Suns. I would then have drafted Amare Stoudemire. (I also would have drafted Tayshaun Prince instead of Boki, but nobody expected anything out of him until he had that great playoff series)

But it's easy to forget what a truly dominant college player Eddie was, and this kind of game just make me lose a little more hair.

Rockets recieved offers for Eddie from Seattle and Atlanta:

    SAR for Eddie straight up
    R. Lewis for Eddie straight up

And as ya'll know, the Rockets turned down both offers.

    The second one, OK.
The first one, you got it wrong, the salaries don't match up. It was for EG + ...

Why fans here do not look at the big picture like the Cap money?

Les does not want to pay luxury tax and that's why he would not trade Eddie for SAR or R. Lewis. SAR was paid tons of money and you would have to sign Lewis for a big tons of money before Seattle and LEWIS agreed to the trade.

The only sensible trade, MAYBE, is to throw some picks or players plus Eddie for Kwame, and I am afraid Washington is still not willing to do it. Look how Kwame is doing now. He is among the most improved.

People here think they are smarter than the rest of the league, the other 28 GMs. There is a reason Kwame was picked #1, Chandler #2 and Eddie slipped to #7.

It is a pipe dream Eddie was going to be #1. The draft record and FA signings of the past decade already told us that we should rather trust the other 28 GMs instead of the Rox GM and Rudy T.

I'd trade him for 3 first round draft picks.
