I have to admit that I am a bit of a beer snob. Sorry, I just can't drink "lite" beers at all. I actually like the taste of beer. That being said I am still looking for new beers that I have yet to try, so I appreciate everyone's lists. Here is a partial list of beers that I like. Pilsner Urquell most Japanese beers especially the malt ones like Ebisu, Sapporo has a good one as do Suntory, but I am not sure if it is available in the US Harp (like Harp a bit more than Guiness, but a nice Guiness is also quite tasty, more like a meal) Newcastle The funniest thing about living in Tokyo is that there are some bars that flaunt that they have Bud on tap...ugh, pass especially when I love Japanese beers. Sorry, after college I can no longer drink Bud unless I have no other option.
Are you kidding me? I've drank with you a ton and I've never seen you drink any of these.....(OK, maybe the Sierra Nevada). Oh, your favorite girl Jenna said to tell you hi.
You tend to forget I was a bartender at Timberwolf way back when. And as long as Jenna behaves, she is fine. She still needs a time-out, though.
You know of course that Sierra Nevada isn't an IPA, of course. It's a pale, which on the continuum of hoppiness goes Ale<Pale<India Pale<Imperial (or double) IPA. Now Sierra Nevada just started making an IPA a couple of years ago but I think it's seasonal, or at least I don't see it very often. But I will agree with you that Sierra Nevada is a very good pale, probably my favorite "Pale that most bars have". I saw it referenced once here already but www.ratebeer.com is a very handy site, one of the coolest things about it being location-specific beer tips. From the best brewpubs to breweries to beer stores, it's extremely useful to check out what users have to say about cities you might be visiting. Specific beers that I haven't mentioned that I really enjoy: Young's Double Chocolate Stout Gumball Head Wheat (from Three Floyd's, prob unavailable in Houston) Red Hook ESB Turbo Dog (from Abita, a Lousiana brewery) Boulevard Wheat (a Kansas City Brewery) Hercules Double IPA (Great Divide brewery, I think in CO) When I'm in Houston visiting family I always try to get some St. Arnold's Lawnmower beer if it's in season.
anyone happen to try abita's fleur-de-lis restoration ale while it was out? heard great things about it but never got a chance to try it.
In Wash, DC there's this place called Brickskeller that serves over 500 different kinds of beer from all over the world. Their menu is basically divided by country. It's a great place to relax and to work on one's goal of finishing the list. Only drawback is that the beer glasses are always warm (understandable due to customer/drink volume) and the food service is slow.
I see FFB finally mentioned one of the many fine beers from the Samuel Smith line. I was surprised it took so long for their name to come up. Their Oatmeal Stout is a great beer. Another great stout, though tough to find: Three Floyds Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout
Interesting stuff. I've heard that beer is one of the oldest drinks known to humanity and archeaologists have uncovered residue of ancient beer in clay vessels from Mesopotamia and Egypt. The Incas and Aztecs brewed beer out of corn too and the idea of fermenting grains and water appears to have been an almost universal way of preserving and consuming grains.
i'm sorry i'm quoting myself, but... i posted this as a joke when i discovered it was a "real" beer. i bought some to share with a few friends during the game on saturdy. OH. MY. F#*KING. GOD! worst. beer. ever. the Independence Brewing Co. (in austin) gives the Texas craft brewing industry a bad name. please rush out and drink some brews from the Real Ale Brewing Co., Live Oak Brewing Co., or St. Arnold's as quickly as you can. thank you and i'm sorry if anyone thought that the previous post was meant to be serious. C.R.A.P. !
Great in summer heat, after exercise, or spicey food a someone mentioned. I drank mostly all lagers this summer (more Urquell & Moosehead) but will be switching as it gets cooler. Beer tastes for me are season and meal dependent, all varities have their place. Used to have Young's on occasion in Winter (meal and beer in one), haven't tried the above.
