Any of you guys into the better "quality" beers for a lack of a better term. I don't want to sound like a beer snob. but you know the "sam adams", "guiness" or whatever. what are some of your favorites. anyone remember celiss (sp) it was brewed in austin. the company was bought but they had that rasberry flavored beer.

what are some of your favorites. I bought this beer called "blue moon" tonight, its a belgian wheat ale that's pretty good.

I don't drink as much as I used to, but the Boddington's Pub Ale that comes in the 4 packs like Guiness with the CO2 system to froth it up is IMHO about as good as a packaged beer can get. It has a very strong and complex (almost fruity) flavor and the CO2 system gives the kind of body where you can tap the glass on the bottom and it resonates.

My roommate worked for Budweiser this summer and they just made a special beer called "Texas Tea" for their 40th anniversary. It was pretty good and drinking one had me feeling like I had just downed three Millers.

    1. Trappistes Rochefort 10
    2. Dogfish Head Raison d'Etre (readily available all over Houston)
    3. Dogrish Head Punkin Ale

    Others...
    Allagash
    St. Bernardus 12
    Celebrator
    Augustinerbrau Munchen
    Stone IPA

And, of course, the oh-so-cheap-given-what-it-is Spaten Optimator. What a beautiful thing, that cheap doppelbock.

Also, Chimay is the more overrated than the miracle of birth. Stay away--it gives Trappist a bad name.

Dogfish Head is by far the best American brewery, and Stone does some things, but if you want to try something different and delicious, go with any Dogfish Head beer--there's like 20 of them.

I am soooo not a beer snob. Heineken is about as fancy as I get. The rest of the time, it's Miller Lite.

It's not necessarily about snobbery. Most of the time I just drink Miller Light. But if I'm going to an alehouse like the Richmond Arms or something I'm going to try some good, different stuff.
