We'd have to get up to 5 for a shot at Beal (maybe higher), but we'd only have to go up to 8 or 9 for a shot at Waiters. According to the 'experts', Waiters may not be all that different a pro than Bradley Beal. Same style game...blah blah blah. I even heard one such 'expert' say that Waiters, in terms of 2 guard athleticism, is the closest thing to Dwayne Wade in this draft. If Morey feels this way, or something even close, why waste more assets moving higher to get Beal? Just give up a little bit less and position ourselves to get Waiters. * I still prefer a trade-up for Lillard, but just putting the ? out there *
Beal is the safer pick. He has a more refined game at the moment and is and will be a better perimeter shooter. Waiters IMO, has more upside. He is more explosive to the basket, is a better passer, and a better defender (although Beal is a good defender too). Now Waiters is going to have to answer questions about his work ethic and desire. He was in the doghouse in his freshman year and while his playing time increased in year two, he still came off the bench. In short. Beal is furthur along now and his floor is still good while Waiters is not, but while both guys have the chance to be star wing players, I think Waiters has a higher upside and probably the 2nd best upside in this draft after Davis.
Isn't it kind of hard to judge a players defense when he comes from a team that plays 2-3 the whole game? He looked very assertive on defense but I wonder if he can defend man to man.
I still can't believe Jim Boeheim called Dion Waiters the best Guard that's ever played for him...and he didn't even start! That's pretty high praise.
I'm aware of the zone that Syracuse played. Going off of his ability to create turnovers along with his strength and athleticism I see Waiters becoming an elite perimeter defender in the pros.
