I was unsure whether or not I should post a thread about a demo PC game, but considering the demo is out before the game and this is a pretty popular game (BF1942 was pretty popular here, IIRC), so I decided I'd post it anyways. The demo has been released. Check out their site for some links (mostly from Gamespot): http://www.eagames.com/official/battlefield/battlefield2/us/downloads.jsp There's also a torrent available, although I haven't tested it out yet: http://static.thepiratebay.org/down...nt/BattleField2ClientDemo.3342952.TPB.torrent The torrent might be a good idea for some since it sounded like the GS servers were getting pounded. Keep in mind that this is a 546 MB demo. Plus, like HL2 and Doom 3, this game is pretty demanding in hardware wise. In fact, I don't think I can even play it due to my outdated graphics card. Oh well, it would have taken me days to download it anyways. You guys with borderline graphics cards can check out the performance now instead of finding out later with a lighter wallet. Enjoy.
Edit: The previous instructions I put using TrueDownloader did not work correctly. I downloaded 560 meg of zip file for the demo only to see it wouldn't open. So, the sh*t didn't work so it was removed.
I already preordered it. I got a headset by Logitech for free, pretty decent piece of hardware. I like how the voice streaming is integrated in the game now, no need for Teamspeak anymore. Thanks for the heads up cola, downloading it now. Edit: CNET > Downloads > Sorry! Sorry! We are unable to complete your download at this time, as we are experiencing an unusually high volume of download requests. Please try again later. * Go back to Download.com... Going to try the torrent.
I posted this yesterday but removed it cause I was having a problem post-download. But, I figured out that TrueDownloader had an issue re-assembling the temp files back into the final ZIP file. I had to right click on the file, click the "force files" option, and wait for the program to assemble the individual downloaded temp file segments back into the final ZIP. But, it works and I was able to download it in 40 minutes over cable. Here are the instructions again: for those still having problems downloading: Go here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=88622&package_id=141780&release_id=306907 download and install true-downloader. Then paste this link into the TrueDownloader program(or copy the link into the clipboard and run the program): http://www.gamespot.com/cgi/chkpt.p...action/battlefield2/Battlefield_2_Demo_GC.zip
Um, no. I think most clans/guilds/outfits will continue to use TeamSpeak/Ventrillo. I know we will. Too hard to coordinate, otherwise. Now, all we need is for TeamSpeak Overlay to work with BF2, and we're in business.
Anyone have trouble setting the controls? Like I use the keypad for movement but I can't set the forward key to Num8 on the keypad. keeps telling me there is a duplicate command, but yet I don't see any other command using it. Glitch or something you just can't set anymore. I can set keys to like NUM7 and NUM9 but not NUM8
YES YES YES!!! I use the keypad and the surrounding keys for ALL FPS shooters, and I can't get the keys mapped correctly. I have to shift my hand up a row, making "/" forward, "8" backward, "7" strafe left, and "9" strafe right. I am highly annoyed and less effective. They better fix this.
w00t! Fixed the keypad issue. Locate a file on your computer called "controls.con" (make sure it's for BF2, as that file also exists for BF: Vietnam). Open it up in a text editor (save a copy first!), find every instance that deal withs "numeric_xx" (x for key of your choice), and delete the entire line. Do this for any text that also has "end," "delete," "insert," and "home." Now, when you open up the demo and navigate to the controls area, several keys will be blank. Just map them to what you want and play!
