Bull crap, as soon as morey knew it was going through he should have called him. His crappy way of dealing with people is hurting us and will prevent us from getting players if it hasn't already. Shane may not be the best player out there but he is as classy as there is and deserves better.
I heard he was one of the most popular nba player in china and got shoe contract because of Yao. This is not the mistake that he could afford.
I assume that Morey couldn't call, because he was still trying to get other trades done/finalizing details.
Didn't sound upset to me. He seemed like he was trying to avoid saying morey called him hours late, but the host pushed the question. At least that's what i'm guessing you're refering to?
http://houston.cbslocal.com/2011/02...-to-say-thank-you-to-houston-and-the-rockets/ here's Battier's interview with SR610
Maybe so but someone could have called. This deal went down on the last hour, so he could have called within 3 hours.
Great interview. He's one player that Clyde Drexler could call a "consummate professional" without it sounding like a cliche.
From this interview, I feel Battier didn't put him in the correct position. He was not as important as he thought. I think Morey made a right decision to trade him away.
Because those slip ups mean way more if he was any type of politician running for office. When he said it that way, it was as if that series do not mean a thing to him. It was like the first playoff series he's ever won as a pro and he can't remember the details correctly. Yao getting into foul trouble and being injured is a big difference. Those are attention to details any intelligent person can correspond correctly given any type of interview.
Grizzlies welcome back Shane: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketball/nba/2011-02-25-3797399913_x.htm
did you mean artists? Are you remedial?...and why is RipOff capitalized and combined into one word? Due to so many errors in your post I can't take your opinion seriously. Move along.
I'm still shocked at how the team doesn't assist new players with a temporary place with such slim notice in this type of event. I think Shane checks into a modest Hotel for a couple months? How does this work? Rent a place maybe.
Spoiler Former Rocket, Shane Battier, glad its you but dont like former Rocket part. I appreciate that. Its the nature of the beast. Out of all the places, Boston, LAL, I thought for sure, he would end up in Chicago. End up in Memphis. Shocked? Of all the scenarios, Memphis was far down the list. It was a shock. Pretty shocking. You still have charities there right? Yes. Still well connected in the community. It was a fun day. Saw old faces. Transition will be easy. When we welcomed you in, you said nature of the beast, that says it all for me --a professional. You expected this didnt you? I thought it was 50/50. I knew our team would make changes. Still, you're always shocked by reality. I wasnt expecting but I wasnt surprised when it happened. Shocked it Memphis. I was on the internet all day. Checked the computer and phone every 5 minutes. Was on one of the NBA rumor site every 5 minutes. At 1:45 I saw it and it was quiet. At 1:55, I see the flahsing news. Battier to Memphis. It was almost out of a movie. Let me ask you this, you been through highs and lows. What direction do you see Rockets going into now. How long until they become true contenders again and what about your situation in Memphis? Rockets are a solid team. Have great players, and when we play together and some defense we can beat anyone. Tough part about this league, you need superstars. You need the horses to win big. We had some great players when I was there. They'll cap space to pursue a big name star. They're one superstar away from contending. Who? I dont know. They're not far. Far cry from Minnesota and Cleveland. Shane, talk about impact of being with Yao. Was taken for granted. What was it like going to China with him. Yao is the best, plain and simple. Dont have to be around him every day like I was to know that. He was supportive, hardest worker, never made excuses. He was the best. Feel horrible that he couldnt stay healthy. For the city too that he couldnt fulfill his potential. My biggest regret is that we didnt have more playoff success. It's a shame it didnt pan out. Yao is the best. What was it like in China? You told me being with Yao in China, almost like being with the Beatles. People were stopping their cars, getting out, screaming for Yao. People were shaking our bus. Literally. This guy is an icon in China. Thrill of a lifetime to see China in Yao's eyes. Brooks joined SR610 yesterday. He said all the right things --what you'd expect. He did say he did have one regret --walking out. What was the attitude from him and team leading up to the deadline. How much did that situation lead into that being traded? I dont think that was the final straw. Team had to make a decision. Kyle's team or Aaron's team? They tried to play them together --you can only do that against few teams. Kyle has played great. He earned the starting spot. Came down to them choosing Kyle. Hard to keep Aaron around and under wraps. Creates tough situation for coaches and players. Now it's Kyle's team. Kyle will play better. It was never Kyle vs Aaron but Kyle I think will play better now knowing its his show. While you were saying that, hard to...seperate yourself that your no longer a Rocket --you and Aaron-- but you both gotta love your situation. You're going to perennial playoff team w/ Memphis and Aaron is going to learn from one of the best in Nash. I'm excited. Lucky to be dealt to place who loves me and are welcoming me back with open arms. We're in a playoff hunt. I get to hold down the fort while Gay is out. I can step in and play some minutes and help. Won 13 out of 17. Up a few spots in the playoffs. Its exciting. Ive been telling people in Memphis that my biggest regret here was we never won a single playoff game. 0-12 in 3 years. Rare to get 2nd chance to make up a not so good first half. I wanna bring some playoff wins home to Memphis. Have you learned your role? Not really.Pretty similar to Rockets. I'll see more action at the 4. I expect to do the same thing as past 10 years. In practice, we keep hearing about how Terrence Williams is doing all this good stuff, lights out, etc yet isnt playing. Chase will start in your spot but how much upside does Williams he have? No question that Terrence has talent. He didnt beat anyone out though for playing time. Kevin, Courtney, Chase have played great. No minutes on the perimeter. With this trade, he'll get I think an opportunity. He's a young player. Entirely different, he played on bad NJ team. Different to play on better team and being productive. He's learning that difference. One final question, Chase will start at least this Saturday. Under your tutelidge, how do you think he has come along and do you feel he is ready? Chase is my guy. Proud of him. He is a professional. Wants to play well, wants to do it the right way. He will have a long successful career in the NBA. I think he is ready. Didnt teach him all my D tricks but that is the good news being thrown in the fire. He'll learn for himself. He'll compete and play to win. Looking forward to big things from him. Looking forward to following your progress. I appreciate it. Everyone in Houston, I miss you already. I'm so appreciative for the great 5 years in Houston. I will always remember the good times. We had a lot of good times. I'll always consider Houston a home for me. I wish you guys well. I'll have a few fans down in Texas rooting for the Grizzlies. Shane, you always will have fans everywhere. You're a consumate professional. Great human being. Great being around you. One request, Laura Reynolds, she loves you. She finds you attractive. She wanted for her sexy traffic bit, if you could say, Hey Laura, this is Shane Battier, I'm gonna miss sexy traffic. Hey Laura, this is Shane Battier, I'm gonna miss sexy traffic. Haha perfect. She'll love that. Only the best to you and Heidi. Appreciate it guys. Take care. Good luck man.
Thanks. This interview is much more interesting from a Rockets perspective. Very candid remarks about Terrence Williams. Basically said that T-Will is talented, but didn't beat anybody out. "He has to learn the difference between playing on a bad team and playing on the Rockets."
