If Detroit really wants some 'O' and Barry, Jon that is, is getting Moochie-type minutes, then there is a destination to work out some bucks differences...Like 9.2 vs 3.2 mil...a 3rd team necessary and additional fodder, like Davis and Curry. Let the accountants handle the details...
If you are thinking of trading Calvin Murphy for Jon Barry, I dissagree. Bill and Calvin are a team and should remain with the Rockets. I too admire Jon Barrys play, but on this team, he would be behind so many sf's, he may retire before he gets into a game. I know you may accuse me of reading between the lines, but thats the way I see it. Next you will probably be trying to trade Glen Rice for Jon Barry,,,,....go figure........
Barry is a SG/PG, but even so, he'd still be caught in a numbers situation. Besides, what's this thread supposed to be about?
The dude wants to trade Moochie for Jon Barry, because Barry still provides that energizer bunny type run, pass, distribute and hit open shots game that Moochie gave to us two years ago. Given that Moochie gets paid a crapload more, salary considerations would have to be taken account of (hence, the accountants comment). On a completely non-monetary level, though, I still don't see why Detroit would do this? I can't imagine many people (inside the organization or out - us fans) are too pleased with Moochie's play recently. Looking to trade him is a good idea, but, as with Cato in the past and Rice currently, getting any GM to take the salary off our hands will be difficult, and getting and value even if this did happen would also be hard. I do like the thinking. Which playoff caliber team out there could use an extra PG and is willing to overpay a bit to try and be that more successful in the playoffs? Unfortunately, not many teams come to mind. The only thing I can think of is possibly Indiana - who's their backup PG? They'd probably salivate to trade Croshere's contract and get a backup PG at the same time, but again, getting it to work under the salary cap is tough. We might be able to unload Moochie to Miami for LaPhonso Ellis - Ellis is not playing spectuacularly at all this year and his mintus have been cut in half, and he is paid a lot like Moochie, but only has one year left on his contract. Or we might be able to work something out with Cleveland and Bimbo Coles, who also only has 1 year left on the contract, but a third team might need to be added. The other question is, as bad as Moochie has been playing, who backs up Steve long-term if we trade him? The positive of some of these trades is Mooch isn't playing well anyway, Steve plays most of the game, Tito can be slowly groomed and be used a a backup in some games, and we have freed up some money because we are trading for plaeyrs with only 1 year left on their contract. Anyway, thought I'd add some perspective to this thread for those who are confused.
If its possible due to cap restrictions, I would love to see that happen. Jon plays his role beautifully and would be a great asset to the Rockets. Again, I would love to see that happen. On the flip side, Joe Dumars is not an idoit and would never trade a Barry type for a player like Moochie. In a perfect world, it would happen, but not here.
Detroit wants 'O', hence untainted by scandal Michiganer Rice fits their bill. Jon Barry fits our 3rd guard needs. One guy makes 9+ the other 3+. Thus, salary inequity, need for accountants. So, more players and probably teams (Knicks? Bulls?) need to factor in. It is a wistful, wishful scenario -- one providing more forward minutes for actually productive forwards.
He could back=up the 2 and the 3 spots. Shoot there is one guy on this thread who thinks he could play point guard......Barry would be a valuable asset to any team,,,thats why Detroit wouldnt consider this deal........
do you trade scenario guys just sit around, watching basketball, see a guy hit like, 2 shots in a row, then jump on the computer and offer up this garbage? we don't need anyone new, certainly not another outside shooter. we have like, 1000 forwards. what would berry do, sell popcorn? just stop. step away from the computer. sit down. enjoy the season.
