So sad, JB helped this club so much last year! ROX need stablize their roster and make players feel better
I couldn't agree more Clutch. I was excited about this season, because it seemed that we finally had something special again. Something to excite the city and bring them to the games. Now this. Oh well, it seemed every move was the right move last season. This season they are having no such luck. Man, I'm going to miss Barry. It would be awesome if Sura could come back next season and be effective.
Mike James was going to get whatever he was worth. And if Houston had shown some loyalty to him and could have shown they were trying to build a championship team and that he was a major piece of it, i'm sure he would have done whatever it took to stay. I don't buy into the theory that he was going to leave anyways for "BIG Money". I'm not all that big of a Mike James fan either, but he was such an important piece to this team that was on the verge of becoming something special from what I saw last year and in the mavs playoff series.
Geez people, y'all act like they let go of some super-secret weapon. I love Barry, his fire, his shooting, his passing, everything (LAST SEASON). But, he can't bring any of that if he can't get off the bench. You think JVG would deliberately not play him with the lack of shooting this team has had? When he did play, he never looked like that firecracker, flying down the court with or without the ball. He was injured and the team went on without him, acquiring a player and setting the rotation without him. I don't think he is still right physically, otherwise they would have found him more playing time. This is not waiving a guy who they don't want anymore, it's doing the player a favor by allowing him to find a team (MORE of a contender) he can latch onto and maybe get a ring before he retires. Point blank. If it helps them sign another player than can help them as well, great. Fitch wasn't brought here to play. He was just to match some salary for DA to also go to a contender. They were just washing their hands of the situation and the trade was of a monetary value since they don't have to worry about DA's bigger contract anymore. They still NEED another ballhandler on this roster. Someone who can and will break a press and run a team. I'm VERY sad to see Barry go and I wish him good luck (hope he gets the ring he desires), but let's not go overboard with how horrible a move this is.
I think $$$ perception came from James himself who said something to the effect that he was looking for a big payday when he was a free agent.
To be fair, last season's trades were temporary fix anyway, Barry, Sura, Wesley are all old. It is better to start the youth movement now. Rox always have a chance to get into the playoffs as long as both Yao and T-mac are healthy. DA's signing is really bad. I hope Swift can turn around, but it is doubtful. The draft pick and FA this off season will be crucial. CD/JVG better make it fruitful, otherwise, it is going to be a waste.
I have a feeling that this was done to embarrass Jon, before Jon was injured the first time he wasn't getting much playing time, I believe that Jon felt that Jeff's system had it's problems and that's why Jeff wasn't playing him. Then he gets injured, sits out with an injury and during that time he said that sitting out and watching the team gave him a new perspective on the system, that was probably a lie, so Jeff cuts him. Yeah, that's pretty crazy, probably just nonsense, I mean we don't need Jon Barry, we do need a backup PG, and Jon unlike Bowen is in the last year of his contract, still a bummer.
This is to be expected, but if Jon was like last year, this wouldn't have happened...This whole season has been riddled with injuries, high expectations, etc...But in the end, we're just a shell of what we were last year...
honestly what are the chances of sura coming back and playing next season? i think they are very small.
http://www.nba.com/suns/news/release_060301.html We should sign Jimmy Jackson. Since we just waived Barry.
I will definitely miss Jon Barry, wish he would have been healthy this year (along with others) and kept the magic going from last season. Barry is a class act and hope he either gets a ring or finds contentment in retirement.
Not surprised. Like I said in the other thread yesterday, Barry is done. He looked slow. The injury must have had toll on him. Good career for him nonetherless. Love his energy. Best luck to him.
Van Gundy never gave Barry a chance this year. Just another one of Van Gundy's screwups. He's running this team into the ground.
yup... this sucks donkey balls. i'll always remember barry falling off his chair and rolling onto the floor when t-mac dunked on bradley. also when he was the first to notice that something big time was gonna happen when he got off the bench to cheer on yao's behind the back dribble. who's going to carry on the "three hand-shaking" sign when the rox make the playoffs? good while on the floor and good for the bench. perhaps one of the best all around players on the team. sigh.
