I got dissed hard for saying Baron was on par with Stevie a few months ago. So... anyone want to claim they aren't at least equal now? I'd even say Baron has one-upped him.

Well Baron is in the same level as Francis maybe higher cause Steve never been in the playoffs to showcased his skills. Baron is a better pure point guard but Steve is a better overall player.

just b/c baron has been able to get to the playoffs in the crappieast conference of all time and thus showcase his skills isn't a reason to put him above steve. we can't comment on steve's playoff abilities until he gets there. outside of that, i'd say they're pretty much even right now and judging who is better is probably just a matter of your preferences or what team you root for.

I love Stevie but c'mon there's no question Baron is ahead of him at this moment. The guy has been to the playoffs two years now, played in a game seven, made big shots, big plays (remember the steal against Orlando, the game winner that was taken away). The playoffs are a whole different ball game and unfortunately Stevie hasn't had that experience. You don't win championships in the regular season. However having said that Francis probably has greater potential than Davies.

    Eastern Conference = NIT.

If the Hornets were in the Western Conference, they'd be home just like the Rockets, with a superior supporting cast for Davis.

If you were to ask Magic Johnson, what player he would rather have on his team, I guarantee you he would say Steve Francis..

    It's more than close.

Wierd how a guy has an injury-filled season, and suddenly everyone becomes a better player than him.

In the one game they played against each other, Steve got 30 points, 8 assists, and 8 rebounds.

    Baron got 34, 11, and 3.

Also consider that this is one of those games in which Steve was battling the severe migraines.

In Steve's worst shooting year, he has been about on par with Davis's shooting all of Davis's career.

Davis shoots a Shaq-like 58% from the free throw line!

And before you compare the two players' clutch ability, allow Steve a playoff appearance.

The difference in the two players' rebouding numbers is larger than that of the difference between the assist numbers...So, statistically speaking, should your post say "Passing:Slight edge to Baron"?

Attitude? Steve Francis has one goal in mind:Winning...Yeah, terrible attitude...

I would take Baron in a heartbeat. He actually knows how to play PG.

Francis only goal is winning? Then why in the world is he one of the worst defensive PG's in the NBA. He talks about the importance of defense, then plays NO D himself. The guy is all about being PC, his actions don't follow his words.

The reason he gets so many boards is that the Rockets frontcourt can't board. Davis is just as athletic as Steve but is a true PG in terms of running an offense, not turning the ball over at a ridiculous rate, and making good decisions. Francis is just not in his league: sorry.

Your assumption of The Franchise is "sorry."

Baron Davis managed to lead a team with a great supporting caste to the playoffs in a bad conference. Wow! What a non-accomplishment!

Davis actually plays in-control, unlike Francis. But he's a significantly less able 1-on-1 player.

Right now, if I could have either... it'd be Davis, solely because of Steve's injury problems. If these were resolved, I'd rather have Francis.

Davis by far in every category except mid-range jumpshooting.
He's also a much stronger player in the air.

Just wondering how people can say he's not a one-on-one player, or not as athletic?
He has just as much hops, and a crossover and quickness to match.

You can also throw in A. Miller as to which young point I would take over Stevie.

Great argument. Now let me turn it around: how can people say that Davis can match Steve's one-on-one capabilities?

Just throwing it out there like that doesn't convince anybody, it's just annoying. Evidently, we're both watching the same people and seeing different things.

Davis has a good cross-over, and is just as fast as Francis. However, he's not nearly as good at misdirection. Davis tends to rely more on overpowering the defender with athleticism, while Francis has more finesse.

Perhaps you see things differently. But on such a subjective issue, I don't think you should be condescending to that extent.

You guys are the biggest bandwagon jumping, front running fans I've ever seen. Guy has injury problems all year, has to carry a bunch of second string scrubs in the toughest conference I've ever seen and you guys want to trade him for a guy that puts up the not quite the same numbers on a better team in a weaker conference. The sad thing is, after Steve puts up great numbers and the Rox make the playoffs next year all you guys will be fighting each other over who can start the "I always knew Steve was awesome" threads first. You guys should go be Lakers fans or something.

Put a healthy Stevie Franchise on the Hornets and pretend Baron Davis had an injury filled season and put him on the Rockets. This comparison cannot be made because it's incomplete. But I believe a healthy Francis vs healthy Davis matchup would be good because they're pretty equal. Davis may look better on the defensive end because he has a lot of help defense from his teammates like Magloire and PJ Brown.
