Malick is headed back to Senegal for two weeks to play in Olympic Qualifying games for the Senegalese National Team. Unless the Rockets make up their mind in the next few days, which does not appear likely, it is going to be a few weeks before they decide if Malick is staying or going.
Thanks. Are you a bona-fide insider on BAD? I think it is good that they have not made up their minds yet. I would expect/hope that they can decide during or after the preseason, because with every passing day his game is exponentially improving.
Why not??? i dont understand why you would want a future prospect, away from you, not learning from the best. Its not like hes expensive, or like we have a full roster. to me the decision is simple
DearRock, I am indeed a bona-fide Badiane insider. MrGoubople, I too think he should stay. However, its not up to me, Malick, or his agents. JVG and his staff will decide, he looked good in Long Beach, so that should help, I personally just think its a matter of figuring out where he would fit in on this seasons roster. I'll keep you guys posted......
Thanks. I am a big BAD homer as I am sure DoD would confirm. My point has been that there is no way a year in Germany can match what he can get here with these guys. Good to have an insider on the BAD tip. The key is to remain an insider so do not be too quick with your info. All the best!
I actually heard Charlie Casserly talk about why they don't put rookies in late in the game to get real game experience. What he said was that guys don't learn from a few minutes at the end of the game. I'm sure the same is true with basketball players. Rudy T always used to talk about how there was no time for practice during the season. IMHO Badiene would probably learn more spending the season in Germany. I think it would be great experience if he could go through training camp with the Rockets, but not if it jeopardized his playing time with the team in Germany. j
rudy t? practices? i don't think they had to practice streetball and isolation. rudy was always drunk or hungover anyway.
Rudy, drunk or hungover heh? I find that extremely rude especially since he is a recovering alcoholic. I wasn't fond of the iso either but man talk about hitting below the belt there. As far as Badiane, I kinda have mixed feelings about playing here versus overseas. If he truly gets lots of minutes playing in Germany, I think that's perfectly fine (see Manu as an example). With this being year one of JVG, everyone is going to be learning a new system (except Rice). Maybe it will be beneficial to have one year of the system down and then once the veterans know it have Badiane come over. That way Badiane doesn't get completely lost in the shuffle of a new coaching staff on top of learning the NBA life, unless of course the coaching staff feels he can contribute this year. o3gs, please keep us informed of his status. Thanks.
it is just a joke....more out of frustration of watching them the past couple of years and knowing rudy's off/def schemes (and personnel decisions to cater) were so simplistic. don't get me wrong, rudy is a great man. wish him the best in his recovery. sorry if i offended you, or anyone for that matter.
Yeah, I think so too. We need a designated BAD man. The dude that will dump MoT and Eddie on their rump during practice. The dude that will bring out the anger in Eddie, so JVG can help Eddie channel that into gameplay. We need a dude coming off the bench that can just throw himself around ferociously without any concern for his foul count. We need da BAD man on dis team. He's a BAD, BAD MAN!!!!!
I didn't see Badiane play in the summer league, so Dear Rock I'm glad to hear your (and other's) enthusiasm. I just don't see how banging (? lol) against MoT or Griff in limited practice can help the guy. Especially because at leat this year in Germany he should be facing tougher competition than he did last season in game competition - and that seems beneficial to me. One caveat though: if the German team he's on, for whatever reason chooses to keep him on the "B" team this season then maybe we get him here, put him on - what's it really called now? -the "accepted" injured list (?) and get creative. The many foreign players who have come here and struggled usually only did so when clubs thought they could get meaningful playing time. With the pressure to "win now" I don't think it's possible. Besides, if Ewing's going to be of real benefit to us he's going to have to be spending most of his time grabbing Yao's jersey and knocking Griff down.
As good as he looked in the summer league he needs to work on his fundamentals. If he were with the Rockets during the season, this would not happen. He would be thrust into learning the playbook and focusing on the opponent rather than working on his game. If he were to stay in Germany whether he got much playing time or not or whether he played for the B team or not, he would be assured a coach teaching him the fundamentals every day.
keep Badiane in Houston! Better that he stay here and get used to the Houston lifestyle. If he's the 12th man on the bench, so what, maybe he can make him self useful and let Gundy sit on his shoulders when Gundy wants to have a face to face with Yao Ming. better that than having Gundy rent out that ladder that kid used in that damn Rocket commercial. damn that ladder, Keep Badiane! and we want him to bulk up on texas steak and ribs, not those wimpy german frankfurter hotdogs that just pass right on through ones bowels.
To the best of my knowledge, R2K has never made a cheap comment like that. Perhaps you have him confused with someone else. Wait, I forgot who I am talking to ..................
I agreee with silent j. Badiane wouldn't get PT here in the NBA like he would in Europe. He'll gain more experience and basketball knowledge playing overseas than sitting on our bench.
