I'm in my homeland where the restrooms are filthy as a mofo and stink worse than a prostitute who hasn't bathed in months.

I'm not sure if I ate something wrong or slept in a weird position, but my back is killing me. When I'm walking it'll lock up and hurt so bad I couldn't move. Is this what they would call back spasms? I can barely get into/out of bed, walk or sit because it hurts so freaking bad, and not in a good way.

THAT IS the rather innocuous sounding "back spasms." Welcome to hell. If you can barely do the things mentioned, it sounds like you don't have a particularly bad case. Wait until you get them where you simply cannot get off of the floor due to the excruciating pain. There's a reason why some athletes "play through the pain" of the occasional broken limb, but sit out games with back spasms (or at least the initial part of a bad bout with them).

I've known women who have claimed they would rather give birth.

Back spasms will slam you down on the kitchen floor and make you do the funky chicken. Avoid at all costs.

I've had back spasms on and off for the past year and I can tell you know I've tried everything to get rid of them. The only thing that works is going to a chiropractor or sports doctor and either getting a deep tissue massage or having them hook you up to a thing called a matrix machine. Good luck, they're incredibly hard to get rid of and the pain is unbearable.

Ask Vivi to give you a back massage.

You do realize we're never going to back down on that, right?

I can't fathom a deep tissue massage for back spasms.......makes me think we're talking about different ailments.

    I recommend SOMA.

    Lots of it.

Scotch helps the soma to work better.

Those must suck. :( How's the health care over there? Is it easy to just visit a back doctor dude and say "Hey, mo' fo', guess who's back?!?!?" and when he asks: "Who is?" you say "Mine! Hurts!". ©SwoLy-D
    "Avoid"???

What, you want him to walk across the street when he sees one on the same sidewalk? Huh? Whaaa---?

Yeah. I have a horrible back.

Chow - Basically, you have to wait for back spasms to settle on their own, which can take hours to days. Try a combination of heat (like a heating pad) and stretching as tolerated, and a massage if you're able. These aren't cures, but they can certainly help.

Seriously? Massages have saved me on numerous occasions.

Always wanted to try acupuncture for my back.

Walking across the street isn't far enough. I would recommend a 4 block buffer zone at the minimum.

Vivi say use ice, she still waiting for you baby, she still luv you, she still no understand.

Seriously though, ice is your friend in this instance. It will reduce the inflammation and take away some of the pain. Ice it for 15 minutes at a times as much as you can during the day. Try to rest as much as possible. Once you heal, there are simple back exercises you can do to prevent spasms from reoccuring.

From personal experience with multiple injuries and back spasms, heat has never helped speed recovery. Most severe pain comes from inflammation which can be reduced by anti-inflammatories and ice. The best thing you can do for a back that has been hurting for an extended period of time is to break the "cycle of pain." The only way to break the cycle is to numb it with ice as much as possible. Stretching, while good for some injuries, can cause further damage if the stretch is too violent.

Slightly off-topic... I used to get back spasms once or twice a year. After I started doing deadlifts in the gym, I haven't had one in about 3 years. Strong hamstrings and glutes are also key in preventing back injury. Most people neglect the posterior chain (hamstrings, glutes, lower back) while exercising.

Oh come on, what do you take us for - a bunch of idiots?? I don't think so - we all know how you got your "back spasms". They came from an unforgettable night of ravaging the unbelievably lovely and steamy vivi. Come on chow - you can shoot straight with us - we're like family here. No need for pretending here.

When I had back spasms for years, it ended up a ruptured disc. I'm not saying you have a ruptured disc like I did, but you may want to get it checked out.
