Well I threw my back out again today washing my truck. It's been 5 years since I have hurt it this bad. I barely made it into the house and just slowly collapsed onto the floor. I couldn't move an inch for hours. At one point I had to pee, and with some help I could only make it up to my knees to pee in a bucket. A few hours later on the heating pad I can barely walk in here to the cpu. Damn you Clutchfans and Ebay! I had some Tylenol with codine a few hours ago, and I'm about to help myself to a bottle of white wine. I kind of feel drunk already... Any back advice to be found here?
I heard that pilates (sp?) is good for backpain and strengthening that area etc. But as far as relief goes, I would really like to know what works as well. I'm only 21 and I have severe back problems.
Try Aleive. After I had back surgery, I preffered it over my prescription paint killers. Lay on your side, knees bent up with a pillow between them (fetal position). Stay off your feet as much as possible. And whatever you do ........DON"T SNEEZE!!!!
Pilates does work well, as does any yoga-based exercise. Strengthening your abs and your back muscles are equally important, and both go a LONG way to improving over-all back health. I've got a couple of pulled muscles, a crush fracture on my L7 vertebrae (<--sp?), and a degenerative disc on the L7 as well, to go along with spinal arthritis. Nothing hurts worse than things that require me to stoop, i.e. preparing food and folding laundry, that kind of stuff.
Hey, I got 0 replies to that thred if I remember correctly. And you're right, I was! Codell, Aleive kills my stomach. I prefer the lay on my back, with knees up, on top of heating pad. Lynus302, I have tried yoga but never stuck to it. I have already planned to get in better shape too. What is pilates?
If you have a disk problem, laying flat on your back or stomach is not always a good thing. The spine has a natural curve to it. Laying flat, is basically straightening out your spine, which its not meant to do.
This happened to me earlier this year. If you can search, you'll find my thread. Basically, I just kept icing my back to numb the pain. It will take a few days to get back to normal so just take it easy and lay down. Alternating from ice to heat (I have a jacuzzi at home) helped loosen it up a bit to where I could function to go to class. If the pain is too severe, knock down a pain killer if you have one Hope ya feel better!
I agree with rockHEAD. Nobody here has a clue what your problem may be. It may be a simple muscle pull or a herniated disc waiting to rupture. I used to think what I had was a simple muscle pull because I always hurt my back playing basketball. I'd be out for days barely able to walk. I eventually found out I had a major herniation in my back and had back surgery. Feel much mo betta now.
I just did that. I have been through This before. I have 2 herniated disks. I first threw my back out in '92 jumping off a cliff in New Braunfels (KingCheetah might have been there) It was a very tall cliff and when I hit the water and it violenty jacked my feet up to my head (young idiot, peer pressure). My back froze up and the rest of the tube trip down the river and I slept on a picnic table in a good deal of pain. I didn't have much problems with it after that until 5 years ago when it went out on me while driving to work. I then got the MRI, shots, rehab etc. I have had minor problems with it up until now. The thing is both my siblings have the same problems even though they did nothing stupid. thanks for the well-wishes. I knew this would happen again eventually. Back to the heating pad...

I've been there, especially the part about "making it to your knees" although not to pee, I mean my lower back has been so screwed up and I could not get myself off my bed or hardly out of my chair at work. Use a back brace and put it on really tight. Thats the only thing that has helped me. Perhaps keeping the back muscles stabilized helped me heal quicker. I used it for about 4 days until I felt ok to take it off. p.s. pills and booze won't really help, but you'll surely catch a buzz.
Bummer! Lots of heat, alternating with lots of ice. I've heard at least 20 minutes for the ice to do any good. Soaking in a hot tub or jacuzzi is ideal, but a good, hot bath helps a lot. If you have a pulsating shower, get it as hot as you can stand and shower until you run out of hot water. Muscle relaxers, Valium, and pain killers (Vicoden is better than Tylenol #-whatever) are your friend. Physical therapy. In short, see a doctor, but be pro-active about getting meds... they tend to be conservative unless you speak up. Mucho other stuff, but if you're in agony, the stuff I mentioned is good short term. Physical therapy and exercise are the long term answer. Don't get surgery unless there is no alternative. It sux. Good luck! (all my own opinion and from personal experience, of course. anyone who says, "Hell, just tough it out, dude!" hasn't had severe back pain. )

MEOWGI, and Mr. Clutch are all the same person, much like I sometimes picture coma and codell as the same. I feel fine, but I dunno about Kent; Jeff, what do you think? Why not trying HONORABLE MR. MEOWGI's WARM HAND RUB? But, seriously, folks... Try the Therma-Care HEAT PADS. Those are great. I put those on even when I am sore... on my arm... from... you know, basketball... or "other" exercises...
That cliff has taken out way too many of my friends ~ including 2 broken backs. I'm sure it's directly tied to the fact that the jump is at the end of the ride and everyone is utterly drunked. That cliff is sealed off like Fort Knox now gates/razorwire etc. it's quite an eyesore. (The whole crew is going next weekend). Nothing hurts like a pulled back muscle ~ valium always helped me the most...
