Oops, I meant Avery Johnson to Nuggets... http://espn.go.com/nba/news/2001/0710/1224527.html Agent: Johnson wants to be a Nugget Associated Press DENVER -- Avery Johnson's agent says the veteran point guard wants to play with the Denver Nuggets. The 36-year-old played 21 games for the Nuggets in 1990 and has spent the last seven seasons with the San Antonio Spurs. "The truth is, if we had to make a decision today, it would be Denver," Johnson's agent Tony Dutt said. Johnson has averaged 8.9 points and 6.0 assists over 13 NBA seasons and is seeking an annual salary of $4.5 million over three or four years. Dutt said Johnson is planning to visit the Nuggets next week. Atlanta, New York, Indiana and Chicago are reportedly also courting Johnson. "They're (Denver) at the top of the list," Dutt said. "He feels really good about the situation. He believes they're close to really being good." Dutt said Johnson gets along well with Nuggets coach Dan Issel and knows team captains Antonio McDyess and Nick Van Exel. "So there are a lot of positives," Dutt said. The free-agent signing period opens July 18 [This message has been edited by SteveFrancis3 (edited July 11, 2001).]
Sounds like a lot of PR to me. The Nuggets have 11 players already under contract. Plus they need room for Cisse & Cook. Maybe a S&T might be possible as the Spurs have only 6 contracts plus Tony Parker. The Spurs haven't renounced AJ yet have they? Some veteran somewhere is going to have to swallow their pride. They can't all get the kind of money they're demanding. ------------------ Raef to Rocks in '01-'02!
If someone gives AJ 4.5 mill per, that team is crazy . . . I guess the Bulls might do it. ------------------ I'm looking for a job, so hire me "And I just have to smile and say 'well, I hope so' while I'm really thinking inside how I'd like to just strangle them and take their job."
