Sitting in a long-forgotten box in a closet I've got a basketball signed by Rudy T and Sam Jones (Celtics) and Calvin Murphy (I'll have to look to verify that last name, it's him or Robert Reed -- sorry, I'm starting this from work). I don't necessarily want to sell it, but how can I find out what it's worth? What do you do with stuff like this -- morbidly wait until someone passes away, and then its value goes up? :(

Story is that I used to attend Rudy T's summer basketball camp at Blinn College in Brenham. I went for like 5 years in the late 70's and early 80's, and it was fantastic. By the way, that's why I'll always love Rudy -- just such an excellent guy, staying late to play 'out' (like horse) with kids and stuff. He let me play him a game of out once with his shoes on the line! Hilarious, and a great basketball teacher (not his fault I didn't pan out). I could go on and on with stories from that place, but anyway, one year I won a shooting contest and I got the ball as a prize. So I don't really want the ball so much -- I just love the memories.

PS question, would anybody be interested in a thread about that camp? I would love to find out who else atteneded? Where would that thread start?

Sorry to break this to you, but it will be hard for you to get anything worthwhile for that ball. In the collectible world today things need to be "authenticated". Meaning there has to be a reputable third party that claims the signatures are authentic. I think you should keep the ball yourself. It would have much more value to yourself then others because of the personal memories attached.

If you are dead set on selling it then try listing it on ebay and put a reserve on it.

If you absolutely are desperate to waste time and money I suggest sending it to PSA-DNA. They will let some finger print experts check out your signatures and then give you a certificate stating the item is authenticated. It cost about 50 bucks to verify a single signature. So it will end up costing you about $150-$200 to get it authenticated. :) Then list it on ebay and I'm sure you will get around a $100 or so. It is a vintage item, but I'm no expert on memorabilia from the early years.

I believe you could start the thread in the main forum. I'm sure some people would love reading about it. Make sure the title of the thread is eye catching though.

    Thanks mucho, ROckets03,

    :)
That's more info than I could have asked for, and I'll definitely just keep the ball. As for a thread about Rudy T's camp, I'll try to think long and hard about a good title. I'm 0 for 1 so far, with this thread having a completely dull title and maybe a record low # of viewings! :(
