Some of my 97 Jeep's console led went off cuz of a fuse overload. I tried to replace it with the original 15amp blue fuse but it kept on breaking. So I used an orange 20amp fuse. There seems to be no problems so far. Anyone think I should not do this? Is there are big difference between 5amps?
For a quick repair, a higher amperage might help you get the light back on, but it will spend more power than it's supposed to. You might still need to check cables or wiring leading to the lamps. I don't know too much about electricity, but I know that if the manufacturer says to use a certain amount of amps, do that.
I don't know too much about electricity either but doesn't the fuse just limits the amps before it breaks. I don't think the it effects the actually amps used.
I wouldn't use a bigger amp. Fuses are there to prevent the electrical devices that are running off of them from pulling more amps than they should, which could cause the wires to overload and melt/burn. Sometimes, a short can cause an amp spike, which causes the fuse to blow. If you have the recommended fuse in there, and it keeps blowing, then you probably have an issue with one of your electrical devices.
^ That's pretty good advice right there. I meant that actually the wire AFTER the fuse can get overheated. Still, use what Jeep recommends AND check the wires or have an auto electrician check the connections.
