Prime Minister John Howard just held a press conference saying that 1500 Military Personell (i.e. SAS, troops) will be sent to Afghanastan to help fight the War on Terrorism. He spoke to President Bush about it last night, and apparently Australia is now one of President Bush's favorite countries! :D No dates were given, except that they will be there between now and two weeks.

I'll give a link as soon as I can find one.

Looks like we are now officially all in this together.

I don't think the Taliban are going to be afraid of a unit of beer drinking, boomerang throwin, kangeroo riding forces.

Next thing you know we will call up the Swiss army and their knives ;)

Hey those things are dangerous you could cut somebody's neck with one of those and then afterwards have a bottle of wine thanks to the convient cork screw feature.

The boomerangs are actually a very good weapon, if you use it properly. Think about it- if you miss your target it comes back to you and you throw it again. If you hit your target, your opponent is down for the count. :D

LOL! I didnt even know Australia had an army. :D

Seriously though, no disrespect to Australia Smeg. I have always thought of Australia as a peaceful place away from the worries of the rest of the world. I wish I lived there. Anyways I definitely plan on visiting one day.

I think Australia has good Special Forces. They don't have a huge military, but the soldiers they have are quality soldiers. I think they are trained in much the same way as British Special Forces.

No army in Australia??????? You are joking, right?!

It was a big decison...but the right one.

I work with Veterans...and though most of them are old now, we have had some of the toughest SOB's ever to fight...

Let's hope everyone gets back alive:)

After getting to know many of the Aussies on this board, I feel like the whole country should be committed.
