sorry. 99.9% Start a poll then of Austinites who were Houstonians to see if they'd move back given the same job in both cities.
There are plenty of people in this thread that have said that they are from Houston, lived in Austin for a few years, but like Houston better. If we're going to make stupid claims based on small sample sizes, I could conclude that 80% of people that have lived in both cities like Houston better than Austin.
Austin is higher priced in real estate because: 1. its more scenic (hills, lakes, trails, parks) 2. UT Austin 3. Higher quality of life (traffic, schools, low crime) 4. Houstonians sick of living in HTown moving here 5. Dallasians sick of living in Dallas moving here 6. San Antonians sick of San Antonio moving here 7. Aggies sick of College Station moving here
First, 99.9% is just plain ignorant and wrong. Second, I would believe that a lot of Native Houstonians who moved to Austin chose to do it, so of course they would prefer it. Austin and Houston are night and day. They really aren't comparable. You definitely have people who prefer Austin, and people who prefer Houston. The rarity would be finding someone who says they are comparable. It's like saying do you like the mountains or the beach. Certain people definitely like one over the other.
You don't really realize how ugly Houston is until you start visiting other cities. Over the past year I've spent time in Tokyo, Hong Kong, NYC, San Fran, Seattle, and Vancouver, among others. You can easily tell the difference between vibrant world class cities that are well planned as opposed to Houston.
b*stard, im just showing some sarcasm. i cant diss my hometown too much, but im honest that i'm glad i made the move. if the rockets ever left houston.. thats a different story
Hey that's an awesome view of the Downtown skyline on the horizon, something precious Austin doesn't have! City pride is one thing...but stop dissing on my hometown already, jeez.
Chicago is old and nasty and dirty. It sprawls as bad as Houston and has as much cold as we do hot. No thanks.
austin's sky line is growing, plus i guess if it keeps flooding, like it always does in houston, you guys can compare Lake Austin with Lake downtown houston. plus its my hometown (htown) and after living 20+ years, I can say that its not the best place to live in Texas. if you live in htown for so long and love the crazy hummity, hot summers, great traffic at 59 and 610 and i10, and love breathing that fresh air, and the friendly katrina folks, then i have great admiration for you. Snoop Dogg loves Long Beach, but he doesnt live there anymore.
its actually very clean (downtown). i've only been downtown though. its downtown is amazing, the sears tower, michigan avenue. I even saw Samuel L Jackson there.
That's great that you love Austin. It's a nice town, I'll admit that. But as hard as it is to comprehend there are people that love Houston, that love Houston more than Austin (even people on this board.) As far as best place to live in Texas, everyone's opinion is gonna be different, none right none wrong. I think we can all agree though, that Texas is the best place to live in the States.
I know you have a mad love affair with Austin, but you need to knock this off. #1 - you know damn well that Houston has a lot of things that Austin simply doesn't have. If you like Austin better, so be it. I don't care. #2 - Talking crap about Houston on a Houston board is pretty immature and classless. I certainly haven't seen a lot of Austin put-downs in this thread. In other words, grow up. You're beginning to sound like an 18 yr. old.
Houston is a great place for opportunity. if you work for a giant oil/gas/energy company, if you are a dancer working off richmond or westheimer, or if you are a hip hop artist who slows your record down when its spinning, you will be successful. if you can cook , you can start a successful restaurant cause people love to eat or go to a giagantic movie theater. Houston is a great place for opportunity. Where else in America can a dude sell cheap furniture with low budget commercials on Houston Wrestling become a multimillionaire??
i think you're the one who's taking it serious dude. i'm having fun. why dont you ask CLUTCH what CITY HE LIVES IN. Im telling the truth. Im from Htown. Even if I'm a rich kid who grew up in River Oaks or if I grew up in the 5th ward, i'll shoot it straight. Im a Rockets fan. If the Rockets suck I'm going to say they suck. Im not delusional like some of you.
