So my wife and I have been looking for some good restaurants in Austin to replace some of our old favorites in Houston. Particularly, we've been looking for a good Indian place, but haven't had much luck so far. If you know of any great places, please let me know: Indian Chinese Japanese Greek Korean BBQ Vietnamese Pho/Sandwiches Preferably not buffets, because those generally suck. (but if you promise they don't suck I'll check it out) I've already been to Rudy's, Chuy's, Trudy's, and a few other places that were recommended to me, but I wanted to poll the guys who's opinions I can trust. FYI, we live up in Cedar Park, but we'll go into town if that's where all the good stuff is. Thanks!
Once you leave Houston and Dallas there are not too many options for Indian. However Star of India is a pretty decent place. I always enjoyed the food. It is not Bombay brasserie but ti is good. Clay pit is a fusion Indian place. It was pretty good.
Indian - Clay Pit Chinese - Chinatown (Mopac @ Greystone) - Suzi's (Anderson Ln near Mopac) Japanese - Uchi (on South Lamar) - Maiko (W. 6th St.) - Kyoto (Congress) - Mikado (183 @ Burnet) - Musashino (downstairs at Chinatown) Greek - Zorba's (lunch in Round Rock off I-35) Vietnamese Pho/Sandwiches - Tam Deli (N. Lamar, near 183) - Lily's Sandwich (N. Lamar @ Braker, in the Chinatown center)
Clay Pit (i like it), Shalimar (people say its great) http://www.shalimar-austin.com/, bombay express http://bombayexpressaustin.com/ Pao's Mandarin House in Lakeway Uchi, Musashino Sushi Dokoro, Mikado Korea House Lily's Sandwiches, Pho Huang Oh for BBQ, go take the tollroad to Hutto, exit 79 and go straight to Taylor http://www.louiemuellerbarbeque.com/ I like this place, go on weekend for lunch. Highly recommend the beef ribs also a trip to Lockhart on 183 is good. Kreuz Market, Black's BBQ, Chisholm Trail also for Pizza... http://www.realespizzaandcafe.com/
Indian - Star of India, Taj Palace, NOT Clay Pit...it's garbage esp. at lunch time Japanese - Uchi, Umi, Kyoto isn't bad, Musashino, Mikado Greek - Kismet Cafe on the Drag, Gyro King in Dobie hell ya Vietnamese Pho/Sandwiches - my friends like Pho Thai Son on MLK and Guad...also i've heard Pho Cong Ly is good as well. i need to get back to the ATX.
Kyoto ?? that place sux! Suzi's and Chinatown?! you really really need to try Pao's in Lakeway. Also T&S Seafood is good for dim sum.
Indian - Madras Pavillion, Star of India Chinese - Din Ho, Tien Hong Japanese - Uchi Greek - Tino's Korean BBQ - Korea House (also try Korea Garden for killer Korean cuisine) Vietnamese Pho/Sandwiches - Tan My (formerly Tan Tan) for pho, Tam Deli for sandwiches also recommend: Persian - Alborz Mexican - Los Comales, El Caribe BBQ - Mann's, Ruby's Homestyle/Soul Food - Dot's, Hoover's, Gene's New Orleans Po Boy and Deli
true, but you don't want to send a fellow clutchfan to a place where the sushi is subpar. maybe i went on a bad night, but it tasted like Kroger sushi. since Darkhouse lives in Cedar Park, he should check out Oragami in Round Rock. for downtown. Maiko and Silhouette
I went to Bombay Bistro for my graduation party this summer. The food was good, and it's near Cedar Park!!
I miss Reales. Very good, though slipping a bit over my last couple of visits. The baked ziti is amazing.
Ditto on Madam Mam's, Rudy's, Salt Lick, etc. When drunk, hit up: Magnolia Cafe (migas, pancakes, tacos) Kerby Lane (PANCAKES!) Starseeds (pancakes, breakfast tacos, etc) Other cool spots in general: Z Tejas Guero's Homeslice Pizza County Line (ribs) Threadgill's (chicken fried steak) Hut's Hamburgers Fran's Sandy's
Chinese Recommended: Din Ho Chinese BBQ - the best in town Avoid: PaiWei Korean BBQ Recommended: Korea House & Ichiban Avoid: Korean Garden (bad service) Vietnamese Pho/Sandwiches Recommended: Sea Dragon - the best in town Avoid: none Sushi Recommended: Mikado, Ichiban (korean/ japanese) Avoid: Maiko, Kyoto, MoTo... the list keeps going and going..
Humm... In asian community, T&S Seafood is known for having the worst dim sum in town.. probably as bad as Marco Polo not if worse. But i agree with you.. Suiz's... is pretty bad. I mean.. really bad.
