I know we had a thread the other day on the solar flares from the sun, but I thought this warranted its own thread.

Apparantly the geomagnetic storm that hit this morning was so strong that we might actually get to see the Northern lights all the way down here in Texas. Hell, I was in Prince Rupert (a few miles south of the Southern tip of Alaska) a few months ago, and I didn't get to see them. It would be awesome to catch the show all the way down here.

One of the things I need to see before I die...and I may not even have to spend the money to fly up north or deal with cold weather.

Aurora Borealis?! Aurora Borealis, at this time of the day, at this time of the year, localized entirely in your kitchen!?

    Yes.

    May I see it?

    No.

Seriously, if anyone finds out whether we'll be able to view it in Austin, please inform the rest of us.

I think of this every time I hear that phrase. Always funny.

I'm in New England, so it's supposed to be really vivid up here. But it's been CLOUDY! Oh, cruel fate!

CNN said it will be visible as south as El Paso...cutting it close for Houston.

This may be a stupid question, but which direction of the sky should I look at to see if I can see the lights? If it's North, call me a guy with blonde roots.

You can see it in the Houston area!
