I think the Astros aren't going anywhere cause their owner is too cheap togive anybody a big contract, so thats why we don't get any big free agents, and i think not signing Alou was a big mistake from the beginning, and thats why we didn't make the playoffs
I sure hope you don't get banned. You start some amazingly fresh, and unique threads that talk about things we've never discussed at this BBS. Where would the BBS be without you Charles, where indeed . . .
I think the Astros aren't going anywhere cause their owner is too cheap togive anybody a big contract, so thats why we don't get any big free agents, and i think not signing Alou was a big mistake from the beginning, and thats why we didn't make the playoffs Kind of like the Angels...
I agree with you that the Astros are not likely to go significatly far in the playoffs due to the extreme differences between the large market teams and the rest of the league. However, not signing Alou was a good decision. He stunk it up this year.
Yea and we should trade for mike hampton..... and larry dirker sucks..... and the rockets shouldnt of signed kelvin cato to such a long term deal... and Michael Jordan is a good backetball player.... and I think the rockets are trading for Vince Carter.... and we should make up huge impossible trade senarios..... and yao ming is going to average 40 ppg 19 rpg and 18 bpg.....
I agree with you that the Astros are not likely to go significatly far in the playoffs due to the extreme differences between the large market teams and the rest of the league. However, not signing Alou was a good decision. He stunk it up this year. The mid-market Giants & Cardinals beat the big-market Braves & D-Backs. The small-market Twins & mid-market Angels beat the small-market A's and big-market Yankees. If you make the playoffs, you have a shot of making the World Series. Is it helpful to have $100MM payroll? Absolutely. Does not having that preclude success? Hell no. The reason the Astros don't go anywhere in the playoffs is that, year after year, their well-paid players don't perform.
Its the curse of the Astrodome. A team that played in there will never win anything. Oilers.....Astros.......
You are absolutely right on this one. Bags and Bidge have been TERRIBLE in the playoffs. But our "cheap" owner finds a way to sign them to big deals every time...I wonder why that is?
Because he knows he would be run out of town, by letting Bagwell and Biggio walk (something I wouldn't mind seeing...). Drayton can hide behind this, and it seems like you have fallen for it.
Oh please. Bonds has nevered produced in the post season either till this year. Quit knocking the two greatest players ever to play for the Astros. They are the Astros.
i think you misunderstood his post...i could explain the history of kidrock's and refman's arguments on mclane's spending habits, but it might take too long...let's just say that refman was being sarcastic... though he did use a fact...Bags and Biggio have been awful in the postseason...i'm a huge bags and bidge fan, but i can't deny that. nevertheless, i agree that they are the very identity of the team.
Up until this post season, Barry Bonds was an old playoff choker...but I think I still would have taken him.
I think Bagwell has a good 3years left in him but Biggio is done. His career ended when Preston Wilson ended his season in 2000. He is eating alot of cap room but the media continues to ride Hidalgo and Ward.
Hidslgo is never going to be the player we thought he was when he signed that huge contract. Ward has developed into a waste of space. Biggio may not be putting up numbers worthy of his contract...but he's a lot closer to it than Hidalgo.
ummmm...do you remember 2001? that year squeezed between 2000 and 2002?? biggio had a really nice season in 2001.
Like I said after 2000 his career was over. He had a decent year in 2001 but not a 9million year. He stole like 10bases. Thats terrible. In 98 when he was in his PRIME he stole 50bases. Just a waste of cap room if you ask me.
big-market D-Backs - bwaaaaaaaaaahahahaaa try big payroll d-backs or big DEBT d-backs or the team soon to be owned by MLB.
