it's all about performance--and Feldman had a GREAT 1st outing. Unfortunately the Astros bats were asleep. If he can keep that up... man our 1-2-3 is gonna be scary (Keuchel-McHugh-Feldman) not to mention some youngsters may surprise this year and give us another quality arm at the 4 and 5 (not really excited about R.Hernandez)

The stats show that has been his MO thus far. He lays off pitches that are ultimately balls... But whiffs at strikes.

It's the better of the two problems to have as it should allow him to see more strikes or at least get on base.

He's been better this year than last year at laying off balls. Small sample size so it might not be predictive. Contact rate is still the same so far more or less.

That's what all high strikeout guys do, though, they flail and/or they miss. The great ones minimize the flailing; it's not a criticism at all, but it's something I've noticed he's improved on. Watch his head and his feet though, he still sometimes swings out of his shoes when he doesn't have to (he's that ludicrously quick and strong in the zone). He could hit 40 bombs and 40 doubles easily just by recognizing what the pitchers give him. I want him to be a superstar.

Wish I could have seen this one. Highlights were fun to watch though.

    Go Astros!

We have 3 very good starters, and once Obe is back, he is more than adequate. I really hope to see Strailey in the majors, i think he would be very good number 5 for us. Forget about Wojo, he should go to the minors.

Now, Marineseck today showed why Singleton is in the minors, and also told the manager, i have to play daily. And, if it continues like this, he would be batting in a better spot.

Not really... his whiff rate at balls in the zone is actually higher than average... whereas his watch rate at balls out of the zone is also higher than average.

    He's unique in his "deficiency".

So he's furthering his "unique" MO.

Jesus tapdancing christ, Nick, why should anyone even watch the games then? He's more selective than he was last year, I'll just leave it at that.

And this is admittedly in a very, very limited sample. And I know this is an anathema to all that people hold good and holy, but he *looks* more comfortable at the plate.

So perfect that this is the only response to such an awful post.

Not sure what you're getting antsy about... at this point in his young career, this is who he is. It was one of the "highlights" of his debut season, as people were quite intrigued by his tendencies to have both a great eye but a below average contact rate for balls in the zone.

Like you said, lets just hope he stops over-swinging at balls that are right there on a tee for him, and starts putting up some tremendous numbers.

The guy I'm really excited about moving forward is McHugh.

That's 8 straight wins with an era of 1.84

    He's got some filthy stuff!!

It really is amazing that this guy was basically on the MLB scrap heap. It just shows what a razor thin wire there is in this sport. A few minor adjustments and he goes from almost out of the league to looking like an ace.

Guys, I have some terrible news about Gattis. My cousin works at a bar that he has been frequenting ever since he came to Houston.

Apparently Gattis got his ass beat last night. I do not know the extent of the altercation. My cousin said that this random dude gave Gattis some crap about his strikeouts. Gattis responded with a strong swing, but he missed.

The dude then proceeded to beat his ass.

Lets get them all out of our system. Hopefully there won't be time for jokes and wheels falling off memes as the season progresses.

Dudes in a funk to start the season, It's a long year.

You realize they're in Dallas right now, yes?

Let me know when he sees Ferris at 31 Flavors.
