Maybe we should petition the league so that opposing pitchers are only allowed to underhand the ball to us when we bat.
Yeah we suck again What's sad is that my prediction has been true so far in that in order for us to win we have to score at least 5 or 6 runs. And pretty much all of our losses has been because we haven't scored 5 or 6 runs... Man and I remembered getting flammed hard for that comment too before the season..
So much for the new and improved offense...even Berkman is sputtering. Take away the 3 HR game from Lee and he hasn't been very good, either. This team is in for one hell of a bi-polar season. We're up...we're down. We're good...we're bad. Black is white. Up is down. I think it will all balance out in the end and we will end up a .500 ball club...right back where we started.
They had 13 LOB today. You have to look at "Team LOB". You can't add up all the individual LOB because you'll fact in one stranded baserunner multiple times.
Don't you get it? We can pay him the league minimum for 1 more year if he stays down! Who knows that could be savings of like a couple million bucks. Shoot, I don't know about you but that is a tremendous payoff for allowing a player to spend one of his prime years in the minors. With that saved money the team could afford to bring in another Woody Williams type player in the future.
The problem is that this lineup shouldn't be having such a hard time scoring runs. Last weekend I looked at my girlfriend and asked her what she would have said to me had I told her before the season that in late April, Ausmus would be hitting 68 points higher than Berkman. She said she would have asked me to lie down, because I must be ill. Burke, Berkman, and Lee are having very poor starts. The only reason we have a decent record now is because Sampson and Wandy have overperformed. We may be in trouble.
Oh, I totally agree. They've been totally streaky. For a while there we were saying that it didn't look like they'd have a problem scoring. Carlos was hitting well...Berkman wasn't...and we were still putting up around 6 runs a game. But over the past 6 games we've gotten runners on...and just been unable to push them in. At some point the meat of the order, Berkman especially, has to start driving in runs. I would be far more concerned if the pitching were just awful. But that we've had a hard time scoring runs with Berkman being a no-show should be no surprise. As to the point I was responding to...if you score 5 runs a game or more, you're going to win a helluva lot of games in the NL. That's why I was saying that I'm sure nearly every team has a kickass record when they score 5 runs or more.
