It's actually gotten to the point where I know what Brown is going to say before he says it: "Good point Bill" or "what have you got for us Greg"
I know. Of course, that contradicts my current optimism that we'll be in contention by the first weekend of college football (not counting the game the week before).
Mets announcers just said Glavine lost his 2 front teeth in the accident. All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth, my two front teeth...
still looks like the same astros so far. Load the bases with 1 out and don't score, then let the other score a run in the bottom on two poorly hit balls.
That's as bad a play, if not worse, than Biggio's made this year. I'm really leaning towards letting Beltran walk and using that money (hopefully from a Bagwell buyout) to shore up the bullpen and get a cheaper OF>
Are any of you starting to think maybe Beltran is a little overrated? Sure he has power and can cover some ground but im not sure I would want to pay him that type of money after watching him every night for the last two months. I was excited when he first got here but to me he seems like a poorman's Andruw Jones. Maybe its just me.
No kidding. Here's a perfect example. He does something like this just about every game: Swinging...and there's a drive to left field, Biggio back on the warning track, and......(confused silence)....Whooooaaaa..............(crowd erupts, more confused silence).......boy, I'll tell you what! I don't know about that one! Biggio looked like a bull in a china closet trying to catch that one! Uh...nice andecdote there Milo....but WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED?!?!? Sometimes it can take up to a couple of minutes before you find out. Hall of Famer my ass.
I was wondering if I was the only one that felt this way. I agree totally, it just seems like he's not living up to what we thought he would do, but give the guy some credit.....he is playing for the Astros. I was thinking he would be a .300+ hitter (even though I did notice that his average was around .280 when he came here) with at least 30 home runs, 20 steals, and a ton of rbi's and runs. Well you can't blame him for the runs since our guys rarely come through in the clutch, but it seems like he's done almost nothing except hit some home runs since coming over. When I look at the type of money he'll probably get (almost Bagwell money), it makes me wonder if he is worth that. The things that I thought made Bagwell special were not only his intelligence, but his eye. I love players that can get on base (aka. walks) in more than one way. Beltran seems to get a few of these, but after looking at these things I, personally, wouldn't want to pay him anymore than 10 million (I still think that's stretching it if he doesn't hit .300+) if I were the owner. However, since I'm not the owner I would definitely like to see him signed for no more than 15 million. I wonder who the highest paid player (other than a pitcher) that has a career average below .300 is...... Pugs
Yeah I've seen him too many times swing at bad pitches and with runners on base he either strikes out or popup. Anything over 9 or 10mil a year is overpaying this guy to me.
Stros up 2-1. Scary moment when Oswalt got hit in the shoulder with a line drive back to the mound. He is ok and still pitching.
What a weird play. These things never go in our favor...thankfully Roy gets out of it anway. How about Biggio making serious amends!! Still tied 2-2.
pugsly8422 hit the nail on the head. He's overrated for the contract he's gonna get. Unfortunately, the Yankees and other teams can afford to pay him a ridiculous amont of money. That's the problem. Even A-Rod, perhaps the best player in the game, isn't worth his contract. However, based on talent alone, he is one of the top players in the game. He has speed, great defense, can hit for power and average, etc.
Man, I missed the end of the game and I am stuck on a dial up right now. The site is going to take forever to load.... Can we please start winning some games.... EDIT: The Astros and Mets have resumed play at Shea Stadium after a 55-minute rain delay in the sixth inning. 5-4 good guys! Come on Bullinger! Don't blow this one! Man on second, 1 out. Bottom of the 10th.
