    News

Infielder Mike Lamb re-signed with the Astros on Tuesday, agreeing to a one-year, $1.3 million contract. Lamb hit .288 with 14 home runs and 58 RBI in 112 games last season.

    Views

Lamb lost his starting job at third base to Morgan Ensberg late last season and the Astros have indicated that Ensberg will remain the starter unless he struggles in spring training. So unless Lamb can steal that job away, his fantasy value is minimal.

Lamb's one of our better returning hitters, sadly. I'd rate him 3th based on last season's productivity, after Bagwell and a healthy Berkman. I'd be willing to give him a shot at learning LF in spring training unless we get someone better.

Don't dismiss Lamb too quickly. Even if Ensberg avoids injury through the season, the fact is Lamb is needed to pinch hit (and supply power off the bench). Right now your PHers are Viz and a bunch of youngsters...

I'd actually like to see Lamb and Viz platoon at 3B and get some value for Ensberg in a trade. I think Lamb is a better hitter and while his defense isn't as good as Morgan's, its not like Morgan is a gold glove...and Lamb isn't exactly a turnstile either.

Don't forget the offensive juggernaut known as Orlando Palmeiro.

Lamb is great insurance in case Ensberg isn't producing and could possibly play the outfield.

I just want to say that I miss Billy Spiers.

This is great news...Someone with D and was consistent with the bat last year...

However, the more and more I think about it, we shouldn't trade for Soriano...Not for Backe..., we need pitching...

Not sure that Lamb is "someone with D" -- but I agree that he was very good with the bat. I would love to see him in LF, if he can somehow work on his defense. maybe it's wishfull thinking.

Unfortunately, Palmeiro is starting in the outfield this year *shudder*. At least until Berkman returns...

I guess putting him in the outfield would not be that bad of a idea...then we can find someone else and place biggio back at second...i mean that all i can think that they would do......it would be aweful to see biggio back in the outfield again this season....
