We always talk about how the Griz have been acquiring assets to trade up for a superstar.

Or how the Mav's keep assets to use as trade bait at a later date. We know the Rox go out and get what we need but dont seem to look at the big picture and keep tradeable pieces around.

    example:

Posey - maybe we didnt need him but would have been a nice piece to keep and trade for a backup PG. (at the time)
EGriffin - had trouble but could have kept him under contract and traded him instead of paying out his contract and letting him go.
and so on.. right now management seems so focused on getting the right pieces they dont pick up enough assets to use in trades.

so im curious what people think of the assets we do have.

supposedly Yao/Tmac are untouchables but they said the same thing about SF3.

    (10) TMac is our most valuable piece and could command the best package.
    (10) Yao would also bring back some awesome pieces based on potential and marketing power.

we could have they are 10's in terms of tradeable assets. How about the rest of the team?

    (8) JJ is getting kind of old but is solid piece and it might be a good time to move him while he still retains some value. He is losing a step but the media still seems pretty high on him and he has an awesome contract.
    (7) Sura has a decent contract and gives you hustle and energy. Not a true PG but as a backup SG/SF could provide solid minutes.
    (6) JHoward we have seen his minutes/numbers drop to career lows but has been a consistent 17/7 all his career. Has a manageble contract and should be able to bring back a solid piece.

There seems to be a big dropoff from here.

    how would you rate them?

Assets as I see them (not in any particular order):

    • ~5.8M Trade Exception that ends on June 30th. Basically that means we have to make a trade before the February trading deadline with it or I guess use it during the small window of after the season is over and before June 30th.
    • 1st round draft pick which is likely going to be a lottery pick.
    • Expiring contracts of Mutombo (4.5M), Nachbar (1.5M), Lue (1.7M)
    • Jimmy Jackson as a veteran role player (2.5M)
    • Reece Gaines as a young player. Debatable whether he is an asset. Could be for a team wanting to get younger.

Asset or Garbage? I guess it depends on the team.
    • Taylor (8.5M with 2 more seasons after this one)
    • Spoon (5.9M with 1 more season after this one)
    • Howard (5.4M with 4 more seasons after this one)

i'll tell you guys one thing. loading up assets like the grizz and the mavs is not as easy as it seems.

here is how i list our assets:

    >the TE

    >unprotected 2005 first rounder

    >jj

    >deke

    >lue and boki are even

the rest either shouldn't be traded or have negative value. i didn't want to add deke to the list but he does have a lot of value and he isn't in our future plans.
