He's taking way too many shots, especially bad shots, so he becomes inefficient at 18ppg on 17 shots. Ariza should take no more than 12 shots a game, and no threes unless they are wide open.
way too many shots....i am ok with him making 3 out of 9 or 10... but 7 out of 23? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
With all due respect, this could have been posted in the "When will Adelman rein in Ariza?" thread. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=177891 The poll seems a bit nonsensical.
He was 1 for 9 from threes but most of those shots were open with his feet set proper. He had his feet wrong on one open look, and was pretty well contested on another two, but he had a bad shooting night on wide open looks. I feel if he has the green light on that shot in game the staff knows what kind of 3 point shooter he is. His bad shots usually come from inside the 3 point line and are well contested. He actually hit one today, but unless he is wide open or at least in rhythm he shouldnt be shooting jumpers.
He is better than ron artest at least!!! but Ron i think take less 3s but ariza ducks more and steals more as well!!!!!!!!
wait wasn't he a spot up three shooter back in the laker days, did this new role of creating his own shots screw up his ability to make wide open shots?
He's not too good at finishing at the rim with contact. They don't call the fouls when Ariza drives, therefore lots of missed layups.
wasn't he brought in to score, wasn't he challenged to take open shots instead of passing them up? he's shooting too many three's and many shots that should go to landry, brooks, scola, etc... but when he's open, he's gotta take that shot. i mean we're starting hayes, that's basically 4 on 5 when we're on offense.
This is our style of play. We pull up for 3 when we're open, and I like it. We need some variation in our attack... can't go to Scola, Brooks, Landry every single time. We will be figured out quickly if we resort to that. This is what we do now: take shots early in the shot clock. The virtue of this play-style is that you shoot lower percentages but have more possessions overall, so we need to take as many shots as we can. (unless it's one of those awesome possessions where we run a RA piece that bamboozles the defense for an easy layup - i love watching those too) I know what you're thinking, more possessions for us also means more possessions for the other team...this is true, but our defense is so good that it allows us to take advantage of the extra possessions. If Ariza did not have the freedom to shoot, someone else would, but we don't have anyone that can shoot/slash like him, other than Brooks. And Brooks has the permit to dominate the ball and shoot. Bottom Line: we need Ariza to shoot. If he's hot then great, if not, then doesn't matter. That's the problem with run 'n' gun; but you live and die by it. Of course: if we made a high % of shots we took, great! we would be the best team around. But we don't have the personnel/talent to do that. So I will settle for what we have. Our current problem: we aren't running like we did in games 2-9/10. At first, they were running like they had gone mad, which is difficult to sustain, I understand.
Hes a good player, just not a super star. Without Tracy and Yao, we don't have any go-to guys. With that, players like Ariza, Brooks, etc, are going to be shooting alot more than they should. With Yao in the game, he is going to take about 40% or more of our shots. With Yao and Tracy, thats going to be about 60-75% of our shots (while they are in). Without them 2, young players like Ariza are given a 'green light' to go ahead and work on becoming a better player. He may have a poor %, but with that comes more experience every game. I say let him, Brooks, Landry, Budinger, and all the other youngsters work on their game so hopefully next season the experience will pay off.
His just not good enough. He will be a great 15ppg player, but not the 20ppg player he think he is and force to be currently.
Well, try to imagine the old Sacramento teams having Peja go down for the year and asking Doug Christie to fill his large shoes. What you would've seen is identical to what you're seeing now. Simply, Ariza is trying to play a role he is ill-equipped to consistently fill. Trevor has sped his shot up a little bit compared to last year, presumably to get more effective shots up. It's particularly noticeable in one-on-one situations. It has come at the expense of his follow thru and shot elevation, though. He has a slightly quicker trigger than before, but a flatter trajectory. All of this will become moot once a superior wing player is introduced to the lineup. Ariza will go back to his familiar and appropriate Christie/Battier role of taking only open shots and playing defense while Peja/McG/Whomever will slip back on the high volume shoes. (As an aside, let's just hope Trevor doesn't prove to be as whipped as Christie was. The constant hand signs to his wife, along with the stories of her following the team bus everywhere and not allowing to even speak to another woman were as much a national King's story as their collective abilities on the court. I don't was that kind of douchebaggery following my favorite team...)
When he squares up and takes his time he makes his 3's. It's just when he rushes them and takes contested shots is what screws us over.
maybe Ariza needs to pass the ball to this guy and ask him to shoot.. he is so much better. <img src="http://d.yimg.com/a/p/sp/getty/c5/fullj.4ad6d89d0cb710770c4c49ba9b9c0ddc/4ad6d89d0cb710770c4c49ba9b9c0ddc-getty-90040933kc021_houston_rocke.jpg">
It is plain and simple. You want a guy who should be your 3rd, 4th option, to be your best, 1st option. NOT GONNA WORK
Don't know if you were trying to be sarcastic with that one... but Andersen is statistically a better shooter than Ariza.
