It seems alot of folx are for an Hakeem Statue
QUESTION: should Cynthia Cooper get one?

She, Swoopes and Thompson each have 4 rings
    in a row.

Just a question. [hhhmmm I don't know which forum this should be in]

Why not a Clint Dolezel statue while we're at it? [IMG]

Seriously, there will probably be some sort of Comets recognition, at the very least a plaque. However, I would expect it to be for the whole team, and significantly smaller than whatever "Rockets/Rockets player" thing there ends up being.

You would probably get a different answer in the Comets forum.

Hakeem's been a Houston icon for 20 years. Coop has been one for 4. There's no comparison. She's going to have her number hanging in the rafters, and that is plenty of recognition.

Rocket River, we're not talking about championship/season. [IMG] By the way, anyone knows who else has had a higher championship/season percentage than Cooper?

I'm all for a Hakeem statue. How about a statue of Hakeem blocking MJ? That'd be sweet, but the NBA is not going to allow it. [IMG]

The Rockets winning those two championships meant infinitely more than the Comets winning those 4 championships. Without Hakeem Olajuwon our city would still be known as a bunch of chokers.

If we didn't win those championships and the comets still won their 4 championships, we'd still be known as a bunch of chokers whose only claim to fame is having a good WNBA team.

The only player in Houston Sports that deserves a statue is Hakeem Olajuwon because of his pro and college career with Houston.

Dream is deserving, but I would have to put Rudy T. as equally representative of the Rockets as a franchise, and Houston as a Sports town.

No offense but the WNBA is still a small time sport. I know the WNBA has some die-hard fans but it's still the WNBA. Without the NBA packaging it in it's deals the league would really be hurting.

The KJ statue will be on the other end of the arena opposite the Tom Chambers dunking over Mark Jackson. My question is what pose do they capture the dream in???

I think Dream represents more than Rudy does. Dream represents the city of Houston while Rudy represents the Houston Rockets.

I don't even want to think about what's going to happen to this team when Rudy decides to retire. I wonder how Rudy would be honored whenever he does leave. I know I'll be really sad to see him go.

Maybe they will rename the arena after him.

    The Kapaya Center

It has a nice ring to it.

I'd rather see the street named after Hakeem.

    Olajuwon Avenue. [IMG]

How about just a hall of busts of Rocket greats? Cato will take the lead. [IMG]

I think a statue of Hakeem blocking KJ from behind would be nice, just not in front of our new stadium. We need to give it as a gift to the city of Phoenix for their stadium.

No statues, dammit! I love Dream and the Rockets as much as the next guy, but this level of idolizing is slavish and unbecoming.

Without Dream, would Houston even have an WNBA franchise? Without Dream, the Rockets might have been spending this week packing their bags for Memphis.

Dream shooting a fade-away or maybe blocking jordan. Rudy T should also get some sort of recognition after he leaves.

Why not call the new Arena after him? Do you like the sound of 'The Dream Centre'?
