I saw on Ch 2 tonight that Taurean Minor from Booker T Washington HS commited to LSU today. I looked him up and it appears he's one of the top guards in the country. I had never heard of him.

Anyone know the studs to watch for this season? I know about Ozen's Kendrick Perkins. I heard Chris Morris has a kid that plays at Cinco Ranch high school and is supposed to be good but an underclassman.

Do any of you go to the high school games in the area??

Check out Daniel Gibson from Jones High School. I've never seen him play personally but I heard a lot about him. He was on varsity as a freshman and scouts everywhere are watching him closely.

I think Chris Morris has 2 kids at Cinco. One is Shawn Morris, and he can falt-out jump and shoot. I was able to see him in a couple of summer league games this year and the kid can play. His older brother, Michael, is twice as good, but I don't hear nearly enough about him.

the best players in the area this year in no particular order

    kendrick perkins c ozen-memphis(nba) (top 10 nationally)
ndudi ebi f westbury christian (top 5 nationally)
tac minor washington- lsu (top 50 nationally)
cartier martin f (top 100 nationally)
    blake adam sg- tcu
    andrew francis wf elsik- houston
marcus hall pg jersey village- colorado
    lanny smith pg hightower- houston
    michael umeh sg hightower- unlv
Justin Benson pf gulfshores (top 100 nationally)
    Elijah Miller c heritage christian
Michael rose sg spring wood- byu
    Parker Pinkalla sg - houston
Von Wafer sg heritage christian (top 25 nationally)

    jrs:
Daniel gibson combo guard jesse jones
    jawuan mclendon sg- Arizona
    dion dowell sf texas city
    joseph jones pf/c
    sean morris pg cinco ranch

Sean and his older brother Michael are sons of the former nba player chris morris. Michael just graduated this year and will be attending colorado state on a basketball scholarship. Sean will be be recruited on a higher level.

As you can see though this is a great senior class for the area. Last year was kind of down, but there might be 4 mcdonald all-american in this city alone. All the kids i mentioned above, and maybe a few more, will sign to play for a high-major d1 school. then there will probably be 15-20 others that will sign to play for a mid or lower major d1. The houston area is really taking off as a basketball powerhouse

I actually never seen him play, but from what I heard around school when I went to that school is that he could get up there really high. He had great leaping skills. I think he started his sophmore year.

    Yeah, that's about it.

I was going to mention Cartier Martin. He plays at Nimitz high school. He's a 6'7 guard/forward thats ranked as one of the 100 best players in the country.(32 if I remember correctly) He was on my summer league team and he is ATHLETIC. He's a player that you might want to keep an eye on this season.

Ndudi Ebi is a skinnier Nowitzki, who can play defense. Perhaps Garnett is a better comparison?

Mark my words, Ebi will be a 5-10 time All-Star in the NBA.

ndudi is only 6-8 so i don't know if the comparisions to 7-fts are apt. He is however a terrific player and has the potential to be a multi-year all-star.

tozia, This is from prepstars (a recruiting service) on pinkalla:

"Houston has scored big with Parker Pinkalla. The 6-3 Houston (TX) Strake Jesuit star is a legitimate point guard who handles and passes the ball well enough to play the position exclusively at the college level, but he also has the size and shooting ability to spend time on the wing. He needs to get stronger and perhaps is a question mark on defense, but he projects to be a very strong contributor for the Cougars."

    here's another evaluation from basketball.com:

"Looks like your typical three-point bomber. Has a nice looking shot, and has range past the college three-point line. But Pinkalla actually surprised us in showing that he was more than simply a set shooter. When covered, he would create space for himself off the dribble, and at times, actually took the ball all the way to the goal and dishing off to the open man underneath. Still needs development on his ball-handling and isn't particularly quick on defense, but has potential. Shot the ball well in both tournaments. Bears a facial resemblance to Gene Wilder in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Committed to Houston. Rank: B. "

hoopscoop rates him a top 200 player nationally. He's won't be a superstar but he will be a productive player at a high major level as a collegian. And he's one of the top player this year in houston. only a handful are better.

Dickau- I'm saying skill-wise he's a big guy (6-9) who is greatly skilled. I don't care if KG or Dirk is 7 ft tall, because Ebi still plays like a mix of both of them.

At this point he's probably a SF, until he gains some more upper body strength. Regardless, he's the best skilled big guy I've seen on the HS level.

He's much better than Rashard Lewis, from when he was at Elsik. If Shard can be a solid pro, at age 22, Ebi will have multiple all-star appearances by the time his NBA career is over, barring injuries.

Kendrick Perkins is better than Ebi.

I've played against both of them in summer league games, and Perkins is by far the biggest force. This guys incredible - Sort of got the Amare Stoudamire body.

Carrier Martin is also incredible. Played him last summer - reminds me somewhat of Tracy McGrady. Sadly to say he did "McGrady" us - threw ball off backboard, caught it over one of our 6'9 guys and smashed it in. Ouch.

The time I saw Perkins play, he was completely a non-factor (last Dec against Male HS from Louisville at the Academy tourney). Perkins was always the last man back on offense and defense. He was too easy to phase out of the entire game, by Male pushing up the tempo.

Ebi, on the other hand, was active offensively and defensively when I've seen him play.

Perkins has a nice NBA body, to go with good shooting touch, but he has no post-moves. He will be no better than an average to good NBA player.

Also, Perkins' body is nothing like Stoudamere's. Perkins doesn't have anywhere near the explosiveness of a Stoudamere.

Have you seen how skinny Ebi is?? Granted I haven't seen him THIS year, but there's no way he could be significantly different. One of my good friend played for the Houston Hoops, Perkins and Ebi's team, and has said himself Perkins is by far better. Supposedly they had some good battles in practice.

Perkins may not have that much range on the shot, but he does have an inside game. That's his. He doesn't sky hook it, he goes at you and dunks on you. He may not have the explosiveness as Amare, but I was talking about the physical build.

What might surprise you about Perkins is his ball-handling. Way above average for a man his size.

Speaking of prospects, EVERYONE talks about Gibson. He was mentioned earlier in this thread - I'm too lazy to see which school, but supposedly this kid is real. I'm sure you all would be entertained in catching one of his games.

I think both Martin and Ebi are looking at UT.

That's just great man...Have you actually seen him play in person multiple times? I think not, a top 200 prospect nationally is laughable. He can shoot, he has skills, he will be a role player. To say he is a top player in Houston is just a diss to the many more talented but less hyped.

I agree with you that Ebi is a better prospect than Perkins. However, to say that Perkins will be no better than average is jumping to conlcusions off a game from his junior year. I do NOT think he is a lottery pick, but can be because next year's draft is WEAK. He's like DeSagana Diop with more skills. You can't compare matchups against Ebi, because he's a center and Ebi is more of a SF/PF.

It's pretty much agreed that after Lebron, Ebi is the #2 or #3 player after Deng. Perkins is a project. Ebi has the skills and just has to build up. Think Jared Jeffries, not KG. More like Dirk.

Perkins body is nowhere near Stoudemire. Stoudemire was a freak, Perkins is just a big guy, but nowhere near the build or explosiveness. NOT EVEN CLOSE

Ch 2 reported tonight that Ebi commited to ARIZONA. He (Ebi) said, "the number one player should commit to the number one school". Cocky kid but I like it!

Yes at UT we were paying very close attention at 10 AM. It's a MAJOR setback on our rise to an elite program.

Ebi announces plan to attend Arizona

    By Christopher Lawlor, USA TODAY

Ndudi Ebi, one of the nation's premier high school basketball players, announced Tuesday that he'll sign with the University of Arizona. Ebi, a 6-10, 192-pounder also considered the University of Texas and Duke University.

Ebi of Westbury of Christian (Houston) made a final decision early Tuesday morning.

"I wanted to go to a program that would get me to the next level," Ebi said. "(Coach) Lute Olsen (of Arizona) has a great record and his accomplishments. The recruiting process has been crazy. I didn't want things to ever get out of control."

Ebi is considered the nation's No. 2 recruit behind 6-8 forward LeBron James of St. Vincent-St. Mary (Akron Ohio), and has not ruled out entering the NBA draft in June. Last season Ebi averaged 22 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots for Westbury Christian, which was denied its ninth consecutive Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools' Class 3A title by Grace Prep (Arlington).

"It's not the time to discuss the NBA," he said. "I'll reconsider it in April or May."
