Looks cool - I'm curious if the quality of the device is good.
    _____

At the end of August, we alerted you of the Archos GamePad. Archos claims that it is “the first true Android games console”. With a price tag of just £129.99 ($208) and the specs to back it up, the GamePad may be the gaming tablet of the Holiday Season 2012.

In a press release on Thursday, Archos put the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean gaming tablet up for sale. The main focus of the device is to hit the Android market in which Android users spend over 9 hours a month gaming. Furthermore, the Acer GamePad has the following specs:

    Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
Google Play and Google Mobile Services
    7″ 1024 x 600 pixel display
14 physical buttons and dual “analogue” sticks
    1.6GHz dual-core processor
    Mali 400mp quad-core GPU
10 mm (0.3 inch) thin body
    Weight of 330g (0.7 lbs)

The Archos GamePad will also sport a completely new mapping tool for games. As you can see in the video below, the tool makes it incredibly easy to integrate the GamePad’s physical controls with touchscreen games. Take a look:

    This...

out of curiosity, how has PS Vita sales been? Guess thats a RC Cola question to ask. It was a hot seller when it first came out in Match, but haven't heard too much about it since.

I bought a generic one that was running Android 2.1 still back in June, works well if you just want to play old NES/SNES/Genesis/PS1 roms. Got it for like $50, think I got my money's worth, but this looks a lot better, would be interested if the price was around $100

I didn't even know Archos still existed. They were pretty innovative a while ago.

    Meh.

Specs that are worse than some phones (I'm talking about the screen, mostly), and a price tag that is near some tablets, running an OS that doesn't have too many games that need something other than a phone or tablet...

Yeah. I wasn't aware that it was worth $200. I thought it was $100 from the specs.

Pretty horrible. Handhelds have taken a bit of a beating in general (due to smartphones/tablets/etc.), though Nintendo has managed to get 3DS sales to pretty strong levels after some early struggles.

Vita sold 200K-225K in November, which was one of its strongest months (some good bundles, plus maybe launch of PS+ on Vita helped). For comparison, PSP sold about that last year, and think it sold ~400K during its first few Novembers. 3DS sold ~540K in November (nearly 800K last November).

I haven't followed sales of it too closely overseas, but sales are pretty much the same I believe. I think not many people are biting until it gets a price cut (and even then, not sure how much of a base there is).

Nintendo IS portable gaming. They dont care as much about consoles as they do about their handhelds because they know the money is in children. Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL, etc. If it's new, the kid has got to have it! $$$$$ FOR NINTENDO
