You don't need friggin' "quotes". Quit being a hardass. The Iowa Hawkeyes will be in the Rose Bowl. It's just the tradition of the game, they won't break it up I'll bet you my bank account on the spot.
Sure, why not, duke. NYK: I think they'll be there too. Primarily, I think Washington State loses without Gesser. However, if they don't, and Texas just does a phenomenal job of selling their team and their fans, it's possible that the Orange would take Texas as the at-large and screw the Rose. It's very unlikely, but it's within the realm of possibility. That's all I meant. BTW, duke, you sure you don't want to go to the Big XII game? Cmon, support the team. Still have one pair that I'm willing to sell for under face value... just need to get rid of them.
Cat- Iowa will be in the Rose Bowl (if the Orange Bowl doesn't trake them). End of discussion. If you want to bet me on this (just like giving my Bucks 16 in the Fiesta Bowl) then do it. If you're just talking to talk then quiet down. I respect that you love UT, but don't let that love blind you. Texas has a very, very small shot at a BCS game: 1. Iowa has a BCS game 2. Notre Dame (regardless of how USC spanked them guarantees a sell-out crowd and a huge TV audience) especially to the Orange Bowl 3. USC may slide past Notre Dame based upon Saturday night, but I am not sure who they will go with. THey could slide into the Rose Bowl. So even if WSU loses and USC goes to the Rose Bowl, I still believe the BCS will take Notre Dame over any 2 loss team in teh country. Are they good enough to be chosen over UT, probably not but ND has that kind of clout.

Are they good enough to be chosen over UT, probably not but ND has that kind of clout. The only thing Texas has going for it is rematches. If FSU is in the Orange Bowl, there's a question of whether the Orange Bowl would want an FSU-ND rematch. There's no doubt that the Rose Bowl takes Iowa, but depending on locales, I think USC/KSU/UT/ND are all possibilities for the other at-large spot, although I think UT is the least likely of that bunch.
b/c Texas loses so many big games they will never get respect from the writers. The bottom line is they need to beat OU they will be in the same situation. Also they can not afford to lose to Tech any time or place. Than all being said, for OU to be ranked in front of them with 2 losses to unranked teams is some what odd, but I am OK with it being that they beat us. BUT with that logic, there is no reason for KSU to be in front of Texas. It has to go to USC. I can not see any reason for it not to go to them unless its on the east coast and they are afraid USC will not travel well.
It has to go to USC. I can not see any reason for it not to go to them unless its on the east coast and they are afraid USC will not travel well. Agreed. The caveat here is that this assumes WSU wins next week. If they lose to UCLA, then USC wins the Pac10, giving them the automatic berth instead of an At-Large. That narrows the field to ND/KSU/UT for that last at-large.
4chuckie, The Orange Bowl has already been quoted as saying they were not impressed with Notre Dame on Saturday night and are looking at other options to fill the at-large spot. It's not happening. Also, I love how everyone twists my words around. Iowa will probably be in a BCS game. But, if Texas can impress the Orange Bowl committee enough this week, it is not a lock. I think they'll be in a BCS game, because Washington State will lose and Texas will get the other at-large spot. But if the Orange wanted Texas (or Notre Dame, for that matter) bad enough, they could do it and leave Iowa without a spot. It's not the Rose's decision. You probably wouldn't think a 12-1 Kansas St. team in 1998 would be left out of the BCS. I don't want to bet on it, cause I think Wazzou loses and this is all irrelevant. But if they win, it's within the realm of possibility. I don't know why you guys set yourselves up like this. Last week all you guys were telling me there's no way we would make it to the BCS, despite all the scenarios that were possible (including this one). Crazy things happen in college football. Good teams lose. Good small state teams can get passed over in major bowl games by bigger teams with a bigger national following and bigger fan base. It's happened before, and it'll happen again. Will it be this year? Who knows. But I do know that with the major bids and smaller schools, don't assume anything as a lock until the bid is actually handed out.
But if the Orange wanted Texas (or Notre Dame, for that matter) bad enough, they could do it and leave Iowa without a spot. It's not the Rose's decision. Iowa has a spot in the Rose Bowl. How exactly does the Orange Bowl taking Texas or ND affect that? Who are you saying would be the 2nd wildcard instead of Iowa?
Iowa does not have a spot in the Rose Bowl guaranteed-- Ohio State gets credit as winning the Big 10. Here are the BCS predictions from Bill Campbell of the Dallas Morning News: Fiesta: Miami v. Ohio State Orange: Notre Dame v. Florida State Sugar: Georgia v. USC Rose: Oklahoma v. Washington State (He obviously hasn't heard that the Orange didn't like ND) Anyway, one of the two at-large teams will be USC, because they're in the top 4. That much is guaranteed. However, as long as Miami reaches the Fiesta Bowl, the Orange Bowl gets the first choice of the other at-large team, before the Rose. If they like Texas or Notre Dame enough, both because of on-field performance and business, they could take one of them over Iowa, and both at large spots would be filled. I'm sure the Rose Bowl would do everything it could to sway the Orange into doing something different under that scenario... but if the Orange is that sold on Texas or Notre Dame, Iowa might be left out.
It's over, according to the Chronicle. I'm pretty sad. The BCS is expected to release Texas and Kansas State from consideration today, making them front-runners for the Cotton Bowl (along with OU should the Sooners lose to Colorado).
Um, I doubt very seriously that the Rose Bowl would put in jeopardy a long standing relationship that they have with the Big 10 and Pac 10 and snub Iowa. Iowa vs. WSU (or USC if WSU loses) will be the Rose Bowl matchup.
Not true at all. Kansas State had a conference with the Big XII commissioner and the Orange Bowl commissioner today, and they said the chances were probably 50/50 if Washington State lost that a Big XII team (KSU or UT) would get the final at-large bid. The Chronicle article was pure speculation, with everyone assuming Notre Dame would get the bid. Manny, You don't get it. Under the scenario I quoted, the Rose wouldn't have a choice. If the Orange were to take Texas, KSU, or Notre Dame, there would be nothing the Rose could do about Iowa-- they would be out of at-large spots, since the Orange already took one and USC is guaranteed.

While technically the bowls get priorities in pecking order, they always all work together to pick the bowls to create good matchups. There's no way the Orange Bowl will do anything to screw over or hurt the Rose Bowl.
You're probably right, but they wouldn't be trying to screw the Rose Bowl-- they would be trying to help themselves. I doubt it would ever come to that, though, since like you said they try and work with each other. By the way, an Orange Bowl rep was just on the radio in Kansas City, and he said that neither Texas or Kansas State would be released from BCS consideration.
As an Iowa Hawkeye fan, I'll second this. It's POSSIBLE that the Hawks don't go to Pasadena, but it would take losses by Miami and/or USC (do they have another game?) to throw the preordained into disarray. Moses hasn't come down from the mountain with tablets inscribed with Iowa as a Rose Bowl team; but it's just about set. The Rose Bowl has a major jones for the Hawks. Hell, if Notre Dame wins its last game, you KNOW some team more deserving will get screwed over. It just won't be the Hawks.
