How did #10 Notre Dame only drop 6 spots after losing to an unranked MSU at home? They beat Pitt (0-3) and UM (1-1; good win). Meanwhile #17 Boston College tumbles out of the top 25 after dropping one to #6 FSU? Clemson out as well after their death match with Miami?

Cal at #13 after beating Sacramento State (0-3), Washington (worst in Pac10), Illinois (worst in B11). Keep in mind that Cal was destroyed in the Holiday Bowl by #19 Texas Tech. Although TT playing Florida International, Sam Houston and Indiana State doesn't help.

The sad thing is if Notre Dame had won that game against Michigan State, they probably would have gotten to #3 behind USC and Texas.

That MSU-ND game sure was entertaining....

In other news, as some of you know, I'm flying out to Baltimore because my brother and I will be attending the Ravens-Texans game on December 4th. My brother has already taken to calling the game "the number one draft pick bowl"..... :D

Polling isn't based on last seasons results.

The AP poll has always been ridiculous. It's why I laugh when all the media blows a gasket over using computers in the BCS. Does anyone remember the season ('91 I think) where ND beat Florida State but wound up finishing behind them in the national polls after they lost to BC late in the season? AP pollsters hardly watch enough games or pour over enough stats to make an intelligent decision. They merely watch sportscenter and move people up or down based on what they did that week with little consideration of how a teams position should be set relative to others. For example, if USC ran the table this season but did so by winning in quintuple overtime every game they would STILL be number 1 in the polls. Media members know little or nothing about the sport they write about and then proclaim in their own medium that they should be the one to make deicisions. So, my point is, the media is stupid.

P.S. - I hate Skip Bayless. He has to be the most bitter hate-filled person in the world. I love that scowling head shake he does whenever he has to listen to Stephen A. Smith on "Old School Nu Skool" on Sportscenter. I'm gonna make money by selling Skip masks for Halloween.

Thank you Captain. Although prior season results, returning players and name recognition does contribute to this year's poll. Cal got smoked by a 7-4 Texas Tech. Then they lose Kyle Boller 2 and Arrington. Plus the Cal name sucks in football. The only reason I can think of their high ranking is that they will probably finish 10-1 playing in the Pac10. Same thing for Louisville.

I hate Sean Salisbury vs. the nerdy looking guy. It must be so embarassing for the nerdy looking guy. If Salisbury can't win an argument, he pulls out the "I'm a former player" card. Should be "I'm a former player who got cut by the Oilers cause I couldn't beat out Bucky and Billy Joe" card.

It was 1993 when that this happened. The prior year ND pounded BC 54-7. Holtz called a fake punt in the 4th Qtr. BC coach Tom Coughlin was not happy. The next year, BC led by two TD in the 1st Qtr, and recovered an onside kick. ND came back like usual but David Gordon's FG knocked out ND title hopes. Great game. FSU coming through the back door and winning their first title.

The funny thing is, on ESPN Radio, those guys are awesome when they talk football together. They act like idiots on the show because ESPN thinks that's what people want to see for some reason.

They also have an incredible record the last two years, were in the top 10 for almost of all last year, have the 2 best performances against the #1 team during that period (the only win and a last-second loss), and have an offense that no one has been able to stop. They are currently 3-0 while being led by their backup QB (main one got hurt). Perhaps those are some other reasons they are ranked so high...

Notre Dame did beat the #3 team on the road as well and the team they just lost to is now in the top 25.

Yep - beating a top team always gives you extra benefit of the doubt, especially early in the season when most of the these teams have just beaten scrubs. Who have Clemson or BC beaten of note?

I think more interesting is Iowa State being ranked one spot below Iowa, and Michigan State being ranked one spot below ND. Until they lose, they should be ranked higher.

I have give Teford credit for turning this ship around.

Cal's record for the last 10 years:
    1995 - 2001: 25 -44
    2002 - 2004: 25 -13

That's avg 5 wins each year. They were Baylor until recently. I'm going contribute their rise to Washington and Arizona sucking big time.

Yep - when Mack Brown's job seemed teetering on the brink a year or two ago, Tedford was my #1 choice if we could get him (Spurrier was #2).

I actually give credit to Major. In 2001, we played two different teams on a Dynasty on College Football. He took Cal while I took Baylor. Even though I won more national championships than he did, we were both consistently top 5. His success has been reflected on the real football field while mine has not. Until this year. :)

The same thing happend last year. Arizona State destroyed Iowa and had no worse than an equal record yet was always ranked below them. The Big 10 and ND get their share of fluff votes, there is no way Purdue should be ranked #10/#11 either. My vote for most overrated team is Purdue.

Thought I would provide an update on the 10th ranked team in the coaches poll.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/index
Feeling Minnesota. Purdue was the trendy pick, but Minnesota emerged as the player in the Big Ten race. With their expected running game and unexpected heart, the Gophers topped No. 11 Purdue in double OT
This was the Gophers' first win over a ranked team since Dec., 2002.

Let's add #8 Louisville to the overrated list. They get smoked by South Florida 45-14. Who is this South Florida?
