I been thinking about the 2 spot and think that Voshon might be a good mid level acquistion. This is an 11 pt /2reb/2 asst career guy who is almost 40% from the arc over his career. Now, his overall shooting % is the same as his 3pt %, but still the guy might be a good off the bench to fill it up for 20 minutes per. Any thoughts?
Im all for him. Lenard has alot of game left in him and it will finally give Cuttino a decent backup and thats something he has never had.
with ya. he would finally allow cuttino to cut loose for 25 minutes per game without having to worry about always playing 40 minutes.....you could even play francis cuttino and voshon in small ball with Griffin and Ming upfront. Voshon gives us pure shooting without hurting anywhere else...freakin Rockets should be listening to this and I am sure they are
As long as he agrees to a low-cost one year contract, Lenard will fit just fine. I think he's a fine short-term solution for being Mobley's backup, and cut some playing time from the 3 guards. The Rockets can sure use his shooting touch.
I disagree, not because Voshon is not a player, but he's not the defender the Rox need. He can be a spark of the bench, but a good sized, defensive minded 2 guard is what we need. Some one like Raja Bell or someone in that mold.
I'd take Voshon over Raja Bell any day. What has Bell done to be a proven back-up at the 2 spot? All he did was hit a couple of shots against the Lakers last year. Voshon can shoot the rock, and Rudy loves that in his players. If he'll take the veterans minimum, sign him up!
Raja Bell is a cool guard to have too....though I do not think Voshon is a bad defender...just not known for it.....
We do need better defense, but we also need some scoring off the bench to give Cuttino some rest.Lenard is a pretty good shooter but isn't all that good on defense.Bell is a better defender but he is not a good shooter.
I agree completely. As I said in the other thread (started by me earlier today), I just don't have much faith in Oscar Torres. Besides, it would be great to hear Calvin do his best "Dr Jack Ramsay" impersonation when Voshon hits a shot to win a game.... "Lenard! Lenard!! LENARD!!
I agree we need a defensive stopper in the backcourt(in the 6'4" - 6'-6" range). That being said,I would also like to see a guy that can hit the J consistently.Unfortunately Nate McMillan has long since retired, now spending his time coaching the hated Sonics.Finding both those qualities in a player isn't common. My take on Voshon is that he is a streaky shooter who is a bit of a jack. His defense is nothing to write home about,at best. On Bell,This is a guy I wouldn't mind having on the Rockets one bit.He brings D at the 2 and the 3.That is definitely a place where we are lacking.Raja plays with heart and it shows. His stint(I believe, correct me if I'm wrong)in the CBA seems to have put some of that Mario Elie attitude and motivation in him. He's athletic and seems to have some upside, but would fit in nicely with this team now,I believe.
Scoring off the bench is needed? How about Yao, either of the 2 PFs not starting, Nachbar and Moochie. This team is sorely lacking perimeter defense, not scoring.
Here is the stats on Lenard PPG 11.5 RPG 2.6 APG 1.8 SPG .83 BPG .35 FG% .410 FT% .783 3P% .371 MPG 23.5 Here are the stats on Bell PPG 3.4 RPG 1.5 APG 1.0 SPG .28 BPG .05 FG% .429 FT% .750 3P% .273 MPG 12.0
Whoa! Everybody is forgetting Oscar Torres. Torres is a better defender than either of these guys and now that he has a year of experience, IMO he will shed the butterflies and blossom this year. And with his confidence restored, Oscar can score as well as Bell or Leonard.
