I haven't played/bought new games in months since my 360 went RROD - seems like having Gamefly is easier than having to buy dozens of games every year. Anybody use it and like it/hate it?
I used it.. It has gotten alot better as of late. Before it was like a week turnaround for getting a game. Now its as fast as Netflix. It is a pain getting newer games though. You gotta jump on it fast or have it queued before. But it is great for the price I think. Plus if you want to keep it you can buy it.. no shipping charges and they send you the original case. Good stuff. I do recommend it.
Before I got Gamefly, I only bought/played 2-4 games a year. This year I think I played 10-12. There are a lot of quality games out there and it doesn't make sense to buy them all.
I've used it for about 6 months last year. I believe the distribution center is in Austin, so you get you're games pretty quickly. I agree with bladeage as to setting your queue with the latest upcoming games ahead of time. Popular games usually become 'low availability' for the first month that they're out. But other than that, great service. They give you rewards such as percentage discounts and coupons off used games every 3 months as long as you remain a subscriber. Comes in handy when they have sales.
I would suggest craigslist. I find a lot of games in great condition for fraction of the cost. You can sometimes sell your game back on craigslist for more than you bought it for if not the same price. I have not used Gamefly's rental services but have heard good things about them. I did buy used games from them for really good prices. i was very satisfied with the delivery and the quality of the products. Almost like new.
just joined 2 months ago. Satisfied so far.. 2 months ago they had Modern Warfare 2 in stock on PS3, so I figure they're pretty good with keeping stuff available. It's perfect for me.. I had been choosing which games to buy (MLB The Show is a must, and then pick between NCAA and Madden, NBA2K if I'm not still busy with football games.. never got around to Tiger Woods after college, which was sad cause it was always a great game. And then between the sports games, I never played other stuff. Now I will get to play all 5 of those, maybe grab NHL, FIFA....Call of Duty.. an adventure game. Really anything I feel like at a given time. I kept NCAA football for 2 months. Just returned it 2 days ago--tired of it with the season over, with me dominating my dynasty, and after getting to play some NBA2K over the holidays at a friend's place..
If you rent a game and want to keep it, they have a "keep it" price. You pay for it and they send you the case and manuals in the mail and you already have the disc. This may not be an option for brand new games though, I'm not sure.
I just wish some new undetectable firmware would go out for the 360, I'll pay for my games on the PS3 and "test" them on 360 =)
Great service for the first two week, then it turns into an adequate service thereafter. If you have commitment issues (like buying games then getting buyer's remorse the day after) then this is a good service for you. Only problem is, for the new games that come out, you'll have to wait weeks or maybe even months to get it, due to high demand.
Yeah, I've got a serious "backlog" of older games that I haven't played yet so I figure with the lag I should be OK.
You are at an advantage then. For people like me who want the new releases delivered, I get disappointed everytime! There is also a bit of strategy involved too.
Used it when it first came out... thought the service was slow, although it has changed a lot since then... I just didn't find the service really smooth... I'm sure it's better now, though, just wished it was as good as Netflix in terms of arrival time.
Turnarounds are exactly four-five days now. 2 days to return, 1 day to process and ship back another game, and then 2 days to ship to your house.
Yeah.. I mean it was almost 2 weeks before.. so I guess it has improved... still.. it could be better, Netflix has about a 3 day turnaround for me. Ship it.. they get it the next day and then ship the other ones.. and then I get the new ones the next day.
When I used it, the turnaround was about 3 days. Of course, that's if the game was available at the nearest distribution center, which is in Austin for Texas residents. I live in San Antonio. If it has to ship from elsewhere, it does take a bit longer obviously. Also, if your post office scans mail, it notifies them that it's being sent back, and they'll ship your next game to decrease turnaround time.
I've had GF for about a year now. It's great since you get to keep a game as long as you want and send it back and get another one in about 3-4 days. I have the 2 game system so when I send one back, at least I have one game to play. I don't even buy games anymore.
When you get a game from GameFly does it come with any instructions or a key layout for the controllers? DD
