If there is no news at www.clutchcity.net there is no news here. Rarely does news like that happen without Clutch already knowing about it, and even if he is scooped, he still has that on the front page before the thread drops off the BBS's front page. So, either news like that would be archived on the www.clutchcity.net or it would be a multi-pager still here on the first thread page of the BBS.

This is like the 8th time the "Any Rashard News?" thread has started, not to mention the dozens of other Lewis threads. If you want to catch up with real Rockets news, just trust Clutch on the front page, or use this BBS search engine and read up. Or can the admin's finally make a Lewis News sticky that lasts the rest of September. Jeff, why not summarize for us and make a sticky post about Rashard.

btw: negotiations for Moochie lasted until Oct10th or so, so yes, these negotiations can last a whole nother month. Count on it.

-The latest news is that there is nothing new on the Lewis news front!

    Sonics, Lewis: No word

Seattle brings Nailon in for workout

    Wednesday, September 11, 2002

    By DANNY O'NEIL
    SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER

Nothing is new in the Sonics' negotiations with free-agent Rashard Lewis, but that doesn't mean Seattle is sitting silently while Lewis decides whether he will return.

The team brought free-agent forward Lee Nailon to Seattle earlier this week, and Walt Williams may be coming to visit the team, too.

The Sonics are over the salary cap and the largest deal they can offer a free agent from another team is a two-year contract starting at $1.4 million.

Nailon, 27, would provide toughness at forward. He averaged 10.4 points and 3.7 rebounds last season for the Charlotte Hornets.

Williams, 32, is a 10-year pro who is a better shooter than Nailon. Williams averaged 9.4 points and 3.4 rebounds last season for the Houston Rockets, making 42.6 percent of his 3-point attempts.

Whether the Sonics add a free agent may depend on Lewis' decision. If Lewis accepts the Sonics' offer of $60 million over seven years, with an additional $15 million in incentives, the team would almost certainly pay a luxury-tax -- a dollar penalty for every dollar they are over the threshold. That would make adding a free agent twice as expensive for the team.

Nailon is the second free agent to visit the Sonics -- Popeye Jones was in town two weeks ago. Also, the Sonics had inquired about Bryon Russell, a free-agent small forward from Utah, but he signed with the Washington Wizards yesterday.

The Sonics' training camp starts Oct. 1, and there's still no clear sign where Lewis is headed. His choice is between the Sonics and the Mavericks, who can offer him a starting salary of $4.5 million, about $1.7 million less than his starting salary under the Sonics' offer.

A sign-and-trade agreement involving Lewis would be difficult to accomplish and appears increasingly unlikely.

"No news on the sign-and-trade front," Dallas owner Mark Cuban wrote in an e-mail yesterday. "We are talking to a lot of teams and will continue to do so."

Heypartner, you're starting to sound like me, man! I thought I was going to have to bust out another "there is no new Shard info" rant.

BTW, I still say another week at least before any progress by any team in regards to Lewis.
