Deke is a much better inside presence than McDyess. When Yao goes out teams attack the basket relentlessly. Deke changes there mind. I don't think teams fear McDyess the same way. Mutombo > McDyess imo. P.S. McDyess is going to go back to the Pistons anyway. He has stated many times he only wants to play for them.
I don't think anyone fears Deke anymore. He might still get a block or two when he gets the minutes but I see more of his slow rotations on defense and the fact he now has the worst hands in the league offensively. People say Chuck Hayes is a liability on offense? He doesn't bring much to the game anymore. The fact that a 6'6" guy has stolen his minutes at backup C proves that.
McDyess is an asset. If he is willing to come here, why don't the rockets sign him?! As I have mentioned, we can trade one of our PFs + expiring contracts for a good pg.
I've seen Antonio defending well to Yao Ming. He has played the 5 a lot in Detroit, I think he's a more versatile defender than Mutombo, and a better player offensively by far. I would try to sign him if he's available.
Anyway, Morey won't go for him... Luxury tax. See this, point 3. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/dailydime?page=dime-081101-02
McDyess has publicly expressed he will never suit up for the Nuggets again and there is no way he's going to play for them. Link: http://www.nba.com/2008/news/11/03/nuggets.pistons.trade.ap/index.html When i read the article, i thought the same thing, ie. We should sign him. In my eyes, I always thought he was bigger than 6'9", I don't know why. After thinking abot it more, I feel like we really don't need him as he'd give us what L:andry gives us anyway.
Which one?. landry aint going nowhere. mcdyess wont net us a good point guard and hayes has more value to us then another team.scola is'nt going anywhere either.
We dont need offense. we need an interior defender. we need a 7 footer like moutombo who can give you 10 to 15 minutes a night of very good defensive out put. and as good as mcdyess maybe or may play taller then his actuall height, he aint gonna cut it against the likes of bynum, chandler and other big centers who we might meet in the playoffs. deke is the ideal matcup behind yao for those guys.
McDyess is still a good player and can contribute. However, we need a back up center who can stop or at least stand against big 7 footers like Shaq or Bynum. Hence, in this circumstances, Deke seems to be a better option that McDyess. If we are playing teams with 6-8 to 6-10 center, Hayes, Scola or perhaps Dorsey is sufficient.
thats because i was never trying to say want he cannot do...you missed my point...but thats okay....i was merely responding to the scenario you had in your first post otherwise i agree with you. like you said, height is an over rated advantage unless you are about 5+ inches on someone. "big" doesnt necessarily mean tall, but i understand people jump to that assumption. but big also includes thickness or strength depending on how you look at it. hayes was a perfect example, what you lack in height you should hope to make up for in thickness/strength. ideally you should have both.
YAO MING GETS BLOCKED...... oh no....... WE SHOULD TRADE HIM. Dream and Scola and Landry and Jordan and you and me will get blocked as well. McDyess for Head and Hayes and I'm in, other wise, I've got to block this trade.
I would actually rather go for Anthony Carter. He's a reliable and experienced point guard with scoring prowess on great FG% (45%+) and comes cheap. Denver now has Billups, so the pure PG Carter should be expendable. They also might be interested in Head to fill in the hole. Makes sense for both teams, and the salaries match. Well, I've already dropped Carter on my fantasy team anyway, so...
So you would want to trade away one of our two younger players that could both contribute at a high level for the next 4-7 years because we get an old player that has two serious knee injuries that will only play another 1-2 years.
