Iverson hit by coin You'd think the stupid Detroit fans would learn their lesson (sorry to sterotype all Detroit fans). Good on Iverson for not pulling an Artest, although besides Rasheed Wallace I don't think anyone in the NBA is mentally unstable enough to pull an Artest. I'm glad security were able to get up there and kick the guy out, who didn't even have a ticket (or was in the wrong seat or something)
I have never been one to say fans of certain teams are A$$holes, but the Piston fans have made me change my mind on that one..
Looks like Stern's harsh response to player behavior works. Now fans can be as abusive as they like without fear of repercussions, from the league or the players. Good job! Also, kudos, Detroit. You're making Philadelphia fans appear downright friendly in comparison. Has the Palace become Thunderdome?
it does tell you a lot about that place. i still remember last year's final... detroit fans came out to the lakers hotel and made noises till wee hours untill the police intervened. i thought that was a little overboard but i hate karla so much and i was laughing at it. then this season, the artest incidence... then this. that is a sad sad city.
The guy was identified, removed from the game and charged with 2 misdemeanors (and got his friend charged with one too). How is that not a repercussion? Will everyone be thowing **** at players because they know they won't do more than 3 months in jail for it?
Stern did an excellent job. He is the commisioner and so he has to lay down the smack to let everyone know who the big dog is in this yard we call the NBA. He cant afford to appear soft otherwise incidents like the "Throw Down in Motown" will happen again.
My point is that the arena security and local law enforcement were able to identify and detain the individual responsible, but that's just reacting to the situation. In my opinion, the league hasn't done anything to create a deterrent. Lifetime bans passed out to people that don't know how to attend an event without physically involving themselves seems like a good place to start. Limiting beer sales just punishes everyone unfairly. That's just my two pesos...
The solution: deliver a warning toward an extremely harsh response. Stern should make an announcement: "If there is another incident concerning fans throwing items onto the playing area, there will be no NBA basketball played in Detroit next year." I bet that would get the childish Detroit fans to behave. -- droxford
