What did they (especially Ford) expect Morey to do? So the fact that the two best players are injured and all the team has are really good role players means that a computer put this team together? No money + injured stars making a ton of money = no flexibility = Morey put together a flawed team over one offseason?

Why does ESPN hate the Rockets? They never have shown respect to the team and during the finals, one of the announcer guys had the nerve to say Byumn was the next Hakeem. I believe that they only like the Fakers and Cavs and no other team. They need to quit kissing those 2 teams booty. I hope we get T-Mac that cares about winning and just surprise those fools. I believe they ranked the Cavs first in the East even though they didn't get to the finals last yr, and have changed their tune about Artest, when he was here, it was all about how he was a former bad boy and aging nutcase, and now that he's with the Fakers, he's the best defender in the world. Sorry about the rant, I can't stand ESPN or Jalen Rose, he's a idiot.

Are you kidding me? Worse than Memphis. What the hell have they done to be better than us, even without Yao and Mac.

With Tracy back I can bet money that we are gonna be better than Hornets. Those 'experts' are idiots

ESPN analysts are idiots. To them, if you're not the Fakers or Lebron you suck. Last year they had a Fakers/Cavs final. I predicted that the Cavs would not make the finals. They fail to realize that everyone on the Cavs except for Lebron is garbage. Mo Williams was suppose to be their savior give me a break.

Wow. It amazes me how any analyst can even think that we could be 14th in the West.

We will be ahead of the Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, Memphis Grizzlies, and Sacramento. There is no doubt in my mind.

ESPN only loves the Lakers, Celtics, and the Cavs because of the ratings those teams get. If the Rockets were to make the playoffs this year, It would be a major story none of the so-called experts would have predicted, but somehow Phil Jackson, Doc Rivers, or Mike Brown would get the coach of the year over Rick Adelman.

its preseason i think most ppl are expecting mcgrady to not play at all till after/near the trade deadline which probably wont be the case.

either way i think 14 is low i personally see us at 10 or 11 in the west.

and yeah the clippers are more talented than the rockets whether they can stay healthy and on the same page will determine how well they do. they got killed by injuries last season but they arent as bad as some people make them out to be here. i wouldnt be surprised if they are fighting for a playoff sport this year if they stay healthly

There is doubt in my mind. What I haven't seen anybody here mention is the possibility of injuries on our already depleted roster? We're already going through this season without Yao Ming. We probably won't have McGrady for at least the first few months - and who knows if he'll play anywhere near his previous level when he returns. Now, what if somebody like Aaron Brooks, Shane Battier, Trevor Ariza or Luis Scola gets injured?

The Clippers have Baron Davis, Ricky Davis, Eric Gordon, and Blake Griffin. Baron Davis is still capable of putting up All-Star numbers. Ricky will have his nights. Eric Gordon looked really solid last year and Blake Griffin may well be a superstar.

Even the Minnesota Timberwolves have the beastly Al Jefferson, Clutchfans sweetheart Ramon Sessions, sophomore Kevin Love and rookie Johnny Flynn.

The Thunder have a potential MVP candidate in Durant (if they can ever rack up enough W's for him to get consideration) as well as players like James Harden, Jeff Green and Russell Westbrook who could emerge as stars.

The Warriors have Monta Ellis, Stephen Jackson and Corey Maggette. They also have sophomore Anthony Randolph who I believe has tremendous potential and possible ROY candidate Stephen Curry.

Memphis will have Rudy Gay, OJ Mayo, Allen Iverson, Zach Randolph all easily capable of putting 20+ points on the board any given night - most of which can easily do it EVERY night. That's without mentioning that they have Marc Gasol and Hasheem Thabeet to clog the paint.

Sacramento is absolutely terrible, but at least they have Kevin Martin. And who knows, maybe Tyreke Evans will pan out too.

I think it fair to say that Sacramento and Minnesota are the only teams that aren't leaps and bounds better off than the Rockets in terms of players who can carry a team. I just consider it delusional to think that a core of Brooks, Scola and Battier competes with the other teams.

Even still, none of those teams are as scrappy as our Rockets. They won't play as hard or as smart. They won't be coached as well. I would agree that despite the talent discrepancy between the Rockets and those teams we still stand a chance at having a better record than all of them IF the players we have remain healthy - but we are easily an injury or two away from being the worst team in the West.

It is, of course, always possible that Morey will trade McGrady and change the whole situation - but as is, I'm going to be following John Wall very closely.

People are nuts if they think the Rockets will do anything of significance this year. That's just being realistic.

The Rockets' "talent" level to that of other teams is very poor.

This is going to be a veeeeeeeeeeeeery long season.

you should have learned that national media is unaware of the majority of players in the nba. They follow the stats sheet of the stars on every team and look at trifecta of stats (points, rebounds, assists). They will never pick the rockets because they have a their superstar goggles on. Remember when bill walton hated on olajuwons game during the championship years. They will always be bandwagoners.

Wasn't it last year that everyone thought the Clippers were a playoff team with Elton Brand? Sure Griffin isn't going to put up 20/10 numbers every night, but he will still be pretty solid. Besides this team is definitely playoff caliber without Blake...Eric Gordan honestly has the potential to be better than OJ Mayo.

Lets see...two young rising scorers in the league in Mayo/Gay (not bad defensively either), a consistent 20/10 big man in Zach Randolph, an improving young point in Conley, an actual 7 footer (Thabeet), and a former MVP who is still very capable of being a top scorer.

Seriously, if that team can just find the chemistry they can go as high as the 7th seed.

I wouldn't call those 'experts' idiots either...a lot of them know a whole lot more basketball than anyone on this board. Seriously, if posted one of my articles and someone just randomly calls me an idiot without refuting my opinions, I would be pretty damn pissed.

Finally! An unbiased post. If I could rep you, I would.

These previews are very predictable, because, frankly on paper the Rockets don't look like they will be able to compete with the elite teams. However, the more I see them play, they might be better than everyone thinks. After the first ten games of the regular season, let's talk.

Those actually sound a lot better reasoned to me. They have good reasons to be skeptical. Jalen Rose, on the other hand, is remarkably consistent at offering shallow, unintelligent analysis and making poor predictions. I don't know how he got the ESPN job, and it puzzles me to this day how he continues to have the job. He isn't even a good TV personality. What are his redeeming qualities?

In those last 4 games against LA, Artest scored 9.5 ppg on about 28% shooting in about 39 mpg and Wafer scored 8 ppg on 50% shooting in about 10 mpg.

I think Ariza and Budinger can easily put up those numbers (or better).
