    I have a Compaq Presario ( 3 or 4 years old ) windows xp.

If I leave the computer on stand-by or shut it completely, I cannot turn it on with the power button.

I have to turn of my power strip, un-plug the cord from the power supply, plug it back in, turn on the power strip, and hit the power button.

After I do that it starts up fine.

Lately it will just shut down all by itself ??????

Do you guys think it’s the power supply ?

I had a bad switch once prevent a computer from staying on. Usually, the switches are not meant to stay in contact, i.e., you press the switch on, press it again off. If you press it and it sticks, the switch will turn your machine on, and then off. Maddeningly hard to figure out if you don't think about it.
