We should have a sticky for auto help.. at least for me :(

So my car go overheated 2 days ago.. and I drove it home and checked the coolant and it's totally empty. So I went and filled it up with coolant. The next day I turned on my car and heated it up.. the meter went halfway so I thought everything was fine.

Then today I heated it up again in my garage and it seemed fine, the meter just went to about halfway. Then I took it for a spin around my neighborhood to see if it's ok, then about a quarter mile my meter went all the way up again. Is my engine damaged?

Oh and I also went over 1000 miles on the needed oil change.. could that be it?

    Thanks!

    What kind of car?

Pure coolant will cause your car to overheat. For Houston, go w/ 70%water 30% coolant. That's probably it. Regardess...

Check oil for the dreaded chocolate shake...signs of a cracked block...
If oil is ok, I'm most worried about where that water went. Did you notice it boiling over? If you did...

    1. Replace thermostat.

    2. Refill with water, make sure to "burp" car as filling up.

    3. Check rad cap.

    4. Electric or fan clutch? Make sure fan is turning on.

    5. Oil change won't effect temp that bad.
