You do know we have 67 more games to play, right? Going with your plan would take us years to contend. The team now just needs a few more pieces to contend. Just look at the games that we have lost. Only two of them were tuly out of reach. The rest were by a few points off. Adding another two way player would solve that. IMO.
By and large, those teams also made other moves that contributed to their success. Sure, an elite-level player significantly improves a team. No denying that. But they're not just out there for the taking. My point it that there's no magic bullet that will win a team a championship in one easy move, either through draft, trade or free agency. Some moves will bring a team closer than others. If the Rockets are going to win a championship anytime soon, it will be because of several things, not just one huge signing. And spitting players into two groups - superstars who can carry a team and everyone else - is oversimplifying. There are all levels of players, all kinds. Some (Iggy) are very good, though not elite. Those players can bring a team closer, too. I think you have to look at what you have and how a player's specific skills and other attributes fit in. No magic bullets.
Agreed. Everyone wants to rebuild but the problem is how? If we acquire Iguodala for a cheap price tag then why wouldn't we go for it. We haven't lost any of these games by a large margin and Battier and Budinger haven't been cutting it at the 3 spot which Iggy would change for us. Like someone also said it may be easier to attract a superstar if we have Iggy.
Fantastic however Iggy isn't getting here for a while, lets say he gets here at new years and the Rox record is 12-20 by then, the Rox would need to finish 38-12 to reach 50 wins and battle for the 8th spot in the West. Also take note that Adelman's system is not easy to grasp so it might take 10-15 games before he begins to feel good in the system. What exactly would all this accomplish by itself? If you acquire Iggy, that can't be the only move and if you do then you'd have two rather large deals in Martin, Scola and Iggy on the books for multiple years.
Hear, hear! Though, it was pointed out to me that the odds will be very long if we keep losing, as a matter of simple arithmetic. I believe they can turn around their playing, but it may be too late.
I believe they're capable, but I'm not going to say they will do it. I don't know how long it will take them to get their act together.
Here's another take on the math: A team that would win 50 games should expect to be 9-6 after 15 games. We're 5 games back of such a team. So, we have to win at a 50-game pace for the rest of the year, and make up 5 games over the next 67 games. Do-able, if we can just gel pretty quickly.
No matter how you do the math, simply put, how many teams have started 4-11 and wound up with 50 wins. Can anyone name one?
If we engineer a trade with Philly, I would love to see Morey trade Patterson and a sweetener (Taylor or the worse of our two 2012 picks?) for Thaddeus Young rather than Iguodala. Young at 6-8 is a true SF with upside and uncommon athleticism whereas Iggy is a SG, a position where we already have Martin and Lee. That allows us to trade Battier and/or Jeffries for a center (Kaman? Biedrins?).
I really wish that we could get AI. I think that we could grab him and not only upgrade talent instantly, but still be rebuilding (he is only 26). He really fills the statsheet across the board.
Iggy would be great with the Rockets esp Brooks and Martin being very good outside threats! Iggy would bring slashing/defense/fastbreaking, and ballhandling. I could easily see him getting an efficient 16/6/6 with 2stls
Obtaining Andre Iguodala is a scary thought, because If we are still mediocre when he arrives, we are in some serious longterm trouble... That said Aaron Brooks Kevin Martin Andre Iguodala sounds almost TOO perfect... If Yao isn't a factor, Can we find a young C to develop with this group?
That's no better than Louis Williams Evan Turner Andre Iguodala Fact is, to win a championship in this league, you have to have two superstars at least. See: Kobe+Gasol. Garnett+Allen+Pierce. Shaq+Kobe. Duncan+Parker+Ginobili. Don't waste the money on Iguodala. He won't lead us anywhere. He's not some superstar. We have to look for a home run.
Suggestion: Houston trades: Martin Hill Philly trades: Iguodala Hawes Helps both thems, we need defense and shot blocking Any thoughts?
with louis williams, evan turner and iggy you have three combo guards and all of them are extremely streaky/subpar shooters. Brooks+Kmart+Iggy has synergy as good as KG+Allen+Pierce...maybe more since all these guys are extremely young compared to Boston. Brooks gives you matchup advantage and clutch scoring, KMart gives you consistent points throughout the first 3 quarters and Iggy gives you defense+ glue+rebounding+athleticism.
No way Philly does that trade. They are gonna be rebuilding if they trade Iggy, they won't accept KM as part of the deal. Something like: Battier or Jeffries (expiring)+Hill+Patterson+2012 Knicks pick for Iggy+Speights might though. Hayes is getting more PT than Speights, they might have settled on Hawes as their C of the future.
