I don't think he was going to jump from the tape. He approached from the wrong spot. When I saw the replay he lined his setup step with the tape to make sure he took off from the free throw line. Either way could be wrong because he didn't explain it to anyone but COME ON! it was the same take off spot that has WON dunk competitions for 3 other people and he did it with 2 hands! It was Josh that got robbed, not Andre. Andre's dunk was good but it was repetitious. Only thing he changed about it was the angle of approach. If it would have gone to another dunk off it looked to me like Nate had more tricks up his sleeve at the end.

I could be mistaken, but didn't Nate clip Spud's shoulder? (Not that it makes the dunk any less special, but it's not like he skied over him or anything)

AI2's dunk with AI was the greatest of the night; it's creative, no one has EVER even attempted it (while tons of people have done the "hey lets jump over someone!" routine). I admit watching lil Nate jump and dunk like that was quite a treat, but stilll...come on.

    AI2 got robbed.
    Nate had 14? attempts
A judge changed his scored after he already put it up.

Was Josh Smith really gonna jump from that white strip? Amazing. I will look forward to that for next year.

As far as who won- who really cares. There were some amazing dunks for the highlight reels. It was fun to watch.

Robinson would've won easier if not for Moses Malone's biased judging.

just a question... how many days does this guys got to practice before the contest???
i think the slam dunk rules should be change to make it more entertaining, because these dunks are getting harder and crazier, choose the contestants at least 1 month before the contest and let them practice alot for thier dunks...
and the judges should also communicate more...

HAHAHA... josh smith really pissed everyone for that gag... he used that white tape as a marker for the gather of his foot on that dunk...

josh smith messed up by putting that white line on the court...confused everyone. if he did his dunk without doing that, everybody woulda been stoked about what he did. remember, showmanship plays a big part...you can't pretend you're doing something AMAZING and then do a dunk that's been done tons before.

    Thank you.

Haven't read the whole thread, but Moses is an employee of the Philadelphia 76ers. Put that in your pipe, while you watch him raise an "8."

Josh Smith getting a 41 for a TWO-HANDED DUNK FROM THE FREE THROW LINE?!?! The hell? Pathetic.

Best dunk of the night might have been Ai's dunk off the back of the backboard from AI. That was creative, and new, and he had to hold his head back to get it under the backboard as he came through.

Of the two finalists the worst of the night was AI's final dunk. Nate's creativity was exception on all of his dunks, but his many attempts actually were taken into account by the judges, or at least one of them who gage Nate an 8 on all his multiple attempt dunks, until the end.

I think at the end they wanted the crowd favorite Nate Robinson to win, so they changed the score to make sure he won, but either one of the two was deserving of the title.

Kobe looked like he didn't even know who Spud Webb was. Yet that was probably the second best dunk of the evening. There are few worse people in the NBA than Kobe.

Josh Smith screwed himself by putting that strip of tape down. He could have went from the free throw line without that and gotten a better score, and maybe tried the tape dunk later.

If he would have gotten a 50, then gone on to the second round to try the tape-dunk, the contest would have been his.

Plus Nate has smaller hands, hard to palm the ball at 5'9", so that makes dunking much much harder, especially with the creative stuff - I know cause I'm the same height!

That in itself should add bonus points :D

honestly if your over 6'1" with at least average hops dunking is extremely easy...like me dunking on a 8 foot ring!! :p

If Steve Francis not being able to palm the ball didn't make a difference to the judges when they introduced that horrid wheel idea, I don't see why it should affect judging now...

i think it will be better if the nba do delayed telecasts and edit the missed dunks so it will look more entertaining :D

I agree with you on Josh Smith. That first dunk of his deserved way more than a 41.
I seems to me like the judges wanted Nate to win from the beginning.

BTW, this is my first time posting in about 1 year.
