I thought Feigen reported the opposite in his blog. Also I am sure you know this but recent history has always been the other way around if anything. Morey's M.O. is signing contracts that give us a team option on the 3rd year and bird rights. I couldn't see the deal with Andersen being any different unless it was a deal breaker. I think the Rockets secretly notified Andersen at the beginning of this week "Hey we want you and we are ready to make an offer to Atlanta if you arre willing to accept a 2 year deal with the third year a team option. You take your time But don't forget you have till the 15th to opt of your Euro contract are youll be locked out of the NBA. Talk to your agent and let us know.
Sounds like a reasonable contract for all parties involved. Glad we will have an actual center on the roster. I am expecting a Hayes/Dorsey combo to back him up this year.
I did actually. And Kersey at the 3 spot. It was a big lineup. That was almost 20 years ago though. "Adelman center" meant the softies.
Who will start at center will be one of the questions while Yao is out. There will be a clear drop off in RBs and D if DA is in there, Dorsey based on his SL may surprise and beat out Anderson for playing time.
Is it possible that they signed him without using the MLE? Hope Morey can do his magic and try o keep the MLE and sign another player, who would contribute next season. Another big man would really be a big boost or use part of it to sign AI.
Would we even need his bird rights, though? He'll be 32, by then. Well, here's hoping Andersen skipping on a decade's worth of NBA wear and tear will allow him to extend his NBA career, if he actually delivers, well into his mid-30's.
Yes, we probably WOULD need those Bird rights, or at least Early Bird rights, on Andersen. Sure, he'd be 32 (or 31, if it's a player option). Sure, he's not expected to become a superstar. But if he simply MEETS expectations based on the cumulative scouting reports on him, Andersen could possibly command a salary above $3M from a team that needs a sweet-shooting big man. Don't get me wrong. I doubt the guy will be anything more than a competent, mediocre NBA center. But this league puts a premium on shooting and a premium on size. Andersen has both. If he can prove that he's a quality NBA rotation big man, then someone will pay up for him. Heck, if the third year is a team option and the Rockets exercise it, that should tell you that at least one team values him. By 2012, the Rockets would presumably be well on their way to becoming competitive once again, so keeping a 32-year-old backup C who can shoot would not be out of line with the overall plan of the franchise. Having his Bird rights would enable the Rockets to use their entire MLE to add other talent. In case I didn't weigh in before on the Andersen signing, I actually really like it. Once again, Morey has thought "outside the box" (but not outside the ClutchFans.net box!) to obtain quality talent at a low price. For the second time in three years, Morey used a player's leverage (of potentially signing a big deal overseas that would completely foreclose any chance of that player ever playing for the team that drafted him) against that player's original team in order to obtain said player for below market value. And since when is 29 considered "ancient"??? He's younger than Ron Artest, and most of us (me included) would have very much liked to have re-signed him to a three-year deal. While the Rockets definitely want to develop their young players, the team still needs veterans mixed in there, especially those who have won at the professional level. That point cannot be understated, and both Daryl Morey and Gersson Rosas have gone out of their way to point this out. I give Morey a B+ on this move. Good signing.
fair enough...then let's just call them softies. i know what you were implying originally but it's kind of bs to label adelman as a guy who wants soft centers. he had more success in portland and that was a major part of his coaching career. the guys who played the pivot for him there weren't dominant but they weren't soft either.
Im very excited that we got a center that can run the floor and pop some J's should open up the floor nicely for Brooks allowing him to drive and dish.....and if he cant play D oh well Rasha Nesterovitch is still out there....lol
Richard Justice is a pinwheel hack. "believed to be"? Believed by whom? You, Richard? He probably got that number from Clutchfans. Sheesh, less speculation please.
Just a little info for ya'll. Could be exact, could be a little less, a little more. I'm thinking he's not gonna end up being off by much. It's not like it's a complex or max contract we are determining. I agree with you about Justice though, he is a flip flopping dildo that knows nothing about Rox. Stick to baseball and stop trying to be a Baseketballer RJ.
Clear up for all. Its a 2 year deal with a team option for the 3rd year. http://www.myfoxhouston.com/dpp/sports/nba/090717_rockets_sign_andersen
Nice. That's exactly what I pegged his contract to be: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=4656743&postcount=19 Yes, I am Morey*. * Or maybe it's just simple guesswork if you know some of the CBA rules.
Nice call, m_cable. Actually, if the team option is for exactly $2.7M, then the first year salary would be closer to $2,314,815. The second year would still be exactly $2.5M. Off by $14,815. And you call yourself a capologist?!?!
Pretty good, but not yet ready for the NBA. Stats: http://www.nba.com/summerleague2009/players/index.jsp?player=brad_newley
