my friend with the rockets is truly worried that they will lose yao to free agency in 2010. they have offered him a max extension two times in the last year that he turned down. he is not sold on the direction of the team. my friend thinks that ironically mcgrady being out helps us solidify our standing with yao in that we will have to make solid moves in order to keep him
I think Yao will leave Rockets if Les cant get someone that can really help Yao! What he want is a ring!
i doubt yao is gonna bolt in 2010, where is he gonna go? plus the rox may be happy trading him for a superstar, i know some rox fans would. yao has injury issues and big weaknesses in his game. so i doubt he is an attractive signing compared to other big name free agents in 2010. and i'm speaking as a big yao fan from asia.
generally speaking, yao has two choices in 2010 . one is to leave houston and the other is to stay in houston .as a fan of yao ,i guess he would choose the 2nd choice .
Rockets need to play hard to get. Yes, he is a boon to our owner's economic viability, but is he necessarily the centerpiece to a championship team? I want to keep him because I like his character and the identity of hard work and honor that he establishes as our identity by virtue of being here, but let's face it he needs the Rockets just as much as we need him (ok maybe a little less, but the point stands). 1. We are a great marketing springboard for China into the entire realm of the West. Only LA and New York have larger Asian markets to cater to. 2. We have great management, the kind that has surrounded him with good cheap talent in the wake of his and T-Mac's fat deals. Imagine what we could do with more payroll flexibility. 3. We can offer him more money than anyone, and that's going to play more of a factor the longer he waits until his free agency and the cap and tax decline along with everything else in the economy. 4. He built his freaking house here! Three houses! What's he going to do with those albatrosses? It won't be easy to sell those, bad market or not.
Yeah, as if Les and Morey had been saying, "Hey, we have T-Mac. We are good enough already. Let's just get junks from now on. And if Yao doesn't want to say, let's ditch him." LOL. I don't get what the "upside" is. It's amazing how fans actually think it is a good thing for the Rockets to lose one of their top two players, not just lose him in a trade, but lose him, period.
I tried to find some link online that could justify this, but I believe if you include the Vietnamese population that we are #3.
SF definitely has a larger Asian population that Houston. Yao has even mentioned that he likes playing the Warriors in Oakland so he can get some good Chinese food.
We've already lost him. He was injured, he didn't rehab properly, now we have no clue as to what is wrong with him. Right now, he doesn't help the team on the court so the team is much better off without him. BTW, he is not one of the two best players on the Rockets currently. He may be the 13th best player.
My feelings on this. DM has said in a interview when this topic has been brought up that all he can do is continue to build around him. Continue?? Please name a piece that was built around Yao. I think Brent Barry was the first minor piece. You want a strong consistent 3 point shoot in all your positions surrounding Yao. Other skills to compliment after the 3 point shooting is slashing with Yao in the game (if Wafer can do it don't tell me no one else can). Wafer ended up being a surprise find. But who else? They never brought in the 3 point or deep end shooting PF and they even had a chance (CV). Conclusion? They haven't built around Yao and its been 7 years. Next, there are quite a few Chinese/Asian influence cities bigger then Houston. So the above poster, you forgot San Francisco (which is actually the biggest not the third, yes more then LA), Sacramento, Denver, Chicago and Portland. (List of US Cities with large Chinese population.). Players tend to have houses all over the place so I don't see that as a problem. In fact selling it wouldn't be that hard anyway. If you got people buying dates with Yao and wife for extreme amounts and vacations for even more absurd prices then I guarantee there are people who love to buy his house. Even his restaurant if he wanted to part from that but all in all just cause he plays somewhere else doesn't mean he cant vacation or live off season in another place.
there is no doubt that jvg and yao were closer than the normal player and coach, but i think his issues are more about the lack of discipline of some team members. im not sure he is sold on some of our players. and thats not just me hypothesizing. why else would you turn down a max extension particularly with his injury history.
if it's truly the case that yao turned down financial security on the basis of undisciplined teammates, then he's detrimentally idealistic. for some reason, i doubt that's the case. that's just silly.
4. He built his freaking house here! Three houses! What's he going to do with those albatrosses? It won't be easy to sell those, bad market or not.[/QUOTE] and a restuarant on westhiemer. cross the street from his house.
