Are you all for real? You want to pay MLE for him? Are we all give too little credit to Chuck Hayes? He did not play well against Utah in the whole series, especially on the offensive end, not that he needs score more, but grab more offensive rebounds. But he did his job well for the whole season. Are you sure Amir Johnson can perform even at the same level as Chuck Hayes? Chuck Hayes is not the answer for the starting PF. But that does not mean any guy with some atheletism will do better than him. If the only two choices to give MLE to are Chuck Hayes and Amir Johnson, I will give my vote to Chuck Hayes.
Nice find. Maybe he could be a 'plan B' for help at PF depending on how the draft plays out. Move Juwon to limited minutes at backup center and go small with Yao on the bench.
Definitely not. At least if you're given the choice of Amir Johnson or Chuck Hayes. Chuck Hayes has zero offensive game (outside of layups and put-backs), is limited by his size, and has very little upside. Amir Johnson is an athletic freak that is 6-9, can play both forward spots, has a jump shot, and has gotten rave reviews in Detroit and basically owned the D-League (although that doesn't say too much). Even if he hasn't proven it in the NBA, he's shown flashes with the minutes he's had and lets face it, Detroit is so deep he can't get on the floor. (he has Webber, Wallace, Maxiell, McDyess and Dale Davis ahead of him, since the 4 and 5 spots are interchangable in Detroit) I'm taking Amir over Chuck Hayes any day of the week.
By your logic, then Rockets should kick themselves for trading away Stromile Swift? He sure showed enough "flashes", high flying dunks against NBA stars, instead of NBDL, he also has some mid-range game. I am not saying Chuck Hayes is some kind of star, but when you write him off to go after some atheletic players, be careful... If we can have some proven PF in the league (Odom, Anderson Varejao, or Drew Gooden), then pay all you want, over MLE or wahtever. Amir Johnson is unproven and you can't use what he did in the NBDL or garbage time in the NBA game to judge what he can do. If we can sign him cheap, fine. But MLE for him? NO WAY
I like both PF Amir Johnson and PG Will Blalock. Houston has absolutely no depth and no luck in the draft OR FA. Detroit is overflowing with all three. Les Alexander needs to steal some of the personnel people from Detroit, San Antonio and/or Dallas.
I hope that they're just saying it. Les, despite being richer than 26 other NBA GMs, won't break the cap. So a guy like this would be a HUGE steal.
I don't necessarily believe you pay him the MLE but my point was that you made it a choice between Chuck Hayes and Amir Johnson, and in that case you have to pick Amir Johnson every day of the week.
ryan gomes would be another young player worth having a look at. he played pf in his rookie year and mostly sf this season. if boston doesn't land oden they will most likely pick a top forward in the upcoming draft. as they are now, green is a project that has started to come along, and powe put up some nice numbers in the last month or so. sfierce, gomes, green pf:jefferson, powe gomes would be a potential starter on the rockets, if not powe would be useful behind hayes.
The thing again is production v.s. potential. I guess Stromile Swift just made too deep a scar for me to take potential over production. Because the description of this kid sounds so much like that of Swift...
hey guys i play good in limited minutes too. If i play 1 minute ill get 2 pts so over 48 min ill be avging 96 pts.... ARE WE THIS DESPARATE....... AMIR JOHNSON... REALLY? I like the stupid trade offers better than this suggestion...
Offering the MLE would be too much but he plays with greater intensity and focus than Swift however he is raw and inexperienced. I doubt that the Pistons would except the 26th pick for him but if they did, I think it would be worth it.
Well, if the last game of the season is any indication of what he can do in heavy minutes... 37 Min, 10-14 FG, 20 pts, 12 Rbs (6 off, 6 def), 4 blocks, 3 steals... Only one other game played with similar minutes... two games prior 35 Min, 3-12 FG, 6-7 FT, 12 pts, 10 Rbs (5 off, 5 def), 3 Assists, 6 Blocks, 1 steal... Poor shooting there... but good lord at the rest
I would like to take a look at our own pet project in eliyahu before spending money on some other teams... a long athletic PF in any form is something I would like to see along side yao...
I would give up the pick easily for Amir Johnson. The chances of us getting a PROSPECT as good as him where we're picking is slim to none. However, they may see the pick as a chance to stall on giving someone young playing time. Plus they have Maxiell, maybe they pick a PG where we pick. If we could add Amir Johnson via our draft pick we can use our MLE to concentrate on getting the best PG possible with that money this summer. Shoring up those two spots like that, IMO, is the final step for this team.
