yup... an American fighting FOR the Taliban, not against them... you idiot! His Mamma say's he was "brainwashed"!! CNN has a video feature on their homepage currently (as of 12/3) FOXNews has a story... here's the link excerpt: "TASHKENT, Uzbekistan — A man who fought with the Taliban and claims to be an American is in the custody of U.S. forces in Afghanistan after being discovered among captured Taliban troops.... ...If he got involved in the Taliban, he must have been brainwashed," Marilyn Walker, a home health care worker, said. "He was isolated. He didn't know a soul in Pakistan. When you're young and impressionable, it's easy to be led by charismatic people." The mother said Walker was born in Washington D.C. and his father was Frank Lindh, a lawyer. Lindh and Marilyn Walker are divorced..." ---
What a dumbass...he should have never let it be known he is American...Now they can give him a military trial and execute him as a traitor..Thats what should be done.
This is a good opportunity for the US to gather political support. If we can show that this American will be executed for supporting terrorism, then it will not seem like we are just bullying other countries.
Is he a traitor? Question: He converted to Islam at 16 and moved to Pakistan two years ago to learn Arabic, learn about Islam from scholars, deepen his faith, and began memorizing the Koran. In that time he encountered the teachings of the Taliban (the word Taliban DOES mean student) --- where he was taught that it was his duty as a Muslim to work for a pure Islamic state. The Taliban sent him to Al-Quaida for combat training because he didn't have a good enough grasp of the language to be taught by them. He then fought in Kashmir against Indians, and later returned to Kabul to fight the Northern Alliance. If he was truly taught that this was what his religion required of him, and he never took up arms against american forces when they came to the region, instead following the group that surrendered---does his affiliation with the Taliban (based again on his religious choices alone) make him a traitor to America and guilty of treason? He's twenty, and yes, I do sort of feel for him. I don't think he should be executed---prison for life at worst.
No. Don't request extradition. This guy made his choice, let him suffer the consequences of his new lot in life. This guy fought against the Northern Alliance, let him suffer the same fate as his fellow Taliban. It's their business, not ours. I hate the way that American ex-patriats try to use their American status to get special treatment AFTER they reject their country. Not cool.
LOL ROXRAN! As for this loser, he isn't an American anymore, and I wouldn't want them to execute him for being a traitor because it would suggest that he is an American, which he is not in my eyes. Enjoy prison pal.
he's absolutely a traitor...the man still is a US citizen, from my understanding. he took up arms against his own nation in a firefight that led to the death of a CIA operative there. he fought for a "government" that shelted and supported a group that attacked our nation on Sept. 11th. no doubt he's a traitor...his lawyer might try to argue semantics, but it seems quite clear to me he's guilty of treason. set him up with a military tribunal (the same one a US soldier would get if accused of treason) and deal out justice to the man.
For only the second time in history, I agree with haven....(the first was something about the Rockets, I think...)
He was brainwashed like a lot of the other poor kids who were in the Taliban. None of them should be executed. He is an American citizen so fortunately they can't execute him in a secret tribunal, only noncitizens and those with green cards.
Just seems wierd to me to simultaneously call something a religion, yet have it preach violence. Of course, there is a famous saying that says "any religion that must be justified isn't a religion", or something like that. I think, with 16 years in America, he is a traitor. Religiious beliefs or not, he should know he cant go around claiming American heritage and then trying to kill us.
Fortunately glynch they can lock his @ss in prison (for trying to kill, or possibly being part of a group that killed an American soldier) or my personal favorite, lock him out of the country. You don't need a small tribunal to do that. He hates America, then I say he stays out. And he can use that weak "I was brainwashed" garbage with the Northern Alliance. Funny how the brainwashing wears off after he's caught by the people he tried to kill.
glynch -- brainwashed?? are you kidding?? all these "good kids" were just brainwashed by the Taliban?? in your world does anyone bear personal responsiblity for the choices they make???
