I wish blocks like that would be as hyped up by fans as posterizations. It would would give defenders more motivation to risk contesting dunks.

Did they whistle that a foul?

Edit: I never understood the fascination with dunks. I see a thread about a monster dunk and I watch the clip and yawn. A block like this, on the other hand, is exciting.

Maxiell probably has the best timing when it comes to shot blocking. He's got good ups and long arms but he's only 6'7 and weighs in at a hefty 270. The block of the decade was probably his block against Tyson Chandler when he was on the Hornets and CP3 threw him an alley-oop and Maxiell crushed it.

Those are pretty risky because if your timing is off by a little bit, or the guy is an amazing leaper, you're on a poster and a youtube video like sideshow bob.

Posters are so overrated! Nowadays just anyone gets "put on a poster" if he's at less than 5 meters from the guys who dunked...

You're right - players shouldn't try to defend plays like that. What a huge risk

still like Maxiell's better but this one was nice from back in the day considering the height difference

I think us Houstonians have a greater appreciation for blocks than the average NBA fan, given what we've been blessed with in that regards. Hakeem, one of the all time greatest shot blockers, who has the all-time record, and who has done so emphatically (in his youth) to smartly as he matured, learning to make monster blocks and keep the ball in bounds. Then Dikembe, who is probably the greatest block shot show-man of all time. The finger wave is his. No one can ever do it again without copying Deke.

We had Hakeem and Deke. We never had a prime Jordan, Kobe, Lebron...even Drexler was post his prime.

I like the power block more than the power dunk. That said, the power dunk, especially by the Lebron's and Kobe's of the world, is awesome. Frankly, Chase's dunking this year is pretty exciting, imo.

Now Shannon Brown, on the other hand, is starting to annoy me. He had a sick dunk last year, and a sick dunk earlier this year. And he threw one down on us just recently. But he's taking it way too far. What he does is certainly impressive, for his size...

...BUT, that was a 3 on 1 fast break. How about trying to score. Or how about make the pass to one of the all-time greatest players in history, who is wide open, coming down the lane, better positioned to score.

    Serves him right.

I always thought this was the best block ever:
