It will be real interesting to see how much the Suns regress offensively this year, as they should, and how much they can improve defensively. Granted, Shawn Marion is an amazing rebounder, but Amare seems to have the same rebounding phobia that Yao does.
As long your team has a go to guy -or even a few for the better- it's better NOT to double team Amare, atleast for the coming season. I'd rather let Amare does all the damage by himself rather than BOOSTING the confidence of Steve Nash and the Suns perimeter shooters and getting them a hot hand by all the open looks double team creates. The Rox has an athletic PF in Stro, that's even better since he won't give up too much speed and agility in defending Amare, it's up to him and JVG to create some D tactics on Amare, hopefully woudl be an effective one. Remember how the Spurs kicked the Suns azz last season ?
I think most of you have forgetten that Amare completely destroyed Stromile Swift in the 1st round of the playoffs. Always can ask MemphisX about his opionion of Stro defense on Amare. Personally i think from the few matchups with suns last season, Ryan Bowen defenced Amare pretty well...
Anyone else think a near 7 footer, with that speed and quickness, and that insane vertical leap would make a revolutionary and unstopable NFL receiver? Football isn't my main thing but it seems possible right? Man I get off the subject on every post...
ANYONE CAN MAKE OPEN-WIDE 3 POINTERS!!!! I WANT TO SEE HIM KNOCK THOSE DOWN WITH YAO IN FRONT OF HIM OR OTHER DEFENDERS
Here's a question for the Suns Coaching Staff: Why would you want Amare working on shooting 3's? The dude belongs in or near the paint and expanding Amare's skillset in this way may prove to have negative effect...if ain't broke, don't fix it!
That is laughable. Do the Suns really think they can be a good defensive team just by adding two defensive-minded players and giving remedial defense video lessons? In my opinion, you can't become a good defensive team whenever you want just by having a few good defensive players. You have to build a defensive identity over the course of a full season, knowing whether your teammate will "show" on a pick, or stick with his man. You have to know whether a player will completely rotate to the open man, or fake a rotation and let your teammate recover. Amare is totally clueless on defense, except for going for the highlight-reel block. Good luck with that experiment, Phoenix.
Don't laugh. I have it on good authority that the defensive drills videos are endorsed by Fred Mcgriff.
I don't think it's possible to defend Amare one-on-one. I've seen him make Garnett and Duncan look foolish. Luckily, Houston was the best team in defending the paint last year, even with Juwan Howard as a mainstay of the defense. The difference is that against Houston, Amare will still have to go over Yao/Mutombo once he beats Swift/Howard/Bowen.
They also helped Amare and his AAU team win back-to-back-to-back AAU national championships. The fact that Amare was 2 years older than all the other kids didn't hurt either...
Raja Bell shot 40% from downtown last season, any comment ? And they still have Mr. MVP & Jim Jackson, both shooting on high percentage from downtown. Not to mention, James Jones from Pacers signed in the summer, with good percentage too. Phoenix is a team energized with three pts shooting game, i certainly WON'T give them that edge and get trapped with their game style. Boris Diaw sucked from outside lastseason, but has been the backbone of French NT that won the 3rd place at EBC last month, with strong all around player.
