TRADE ACCEPTED Why would Toronto do this trade? Salary dump.
Some of you are idiots, when it comes to knowing other teams' players. Cato is not worth Williams; and don't even mention any of those other players above, because they are scrubs in Houston, and would be scrubs in Toronto. Please, you're just making yourself look bad. Stop.
I remember a couple years back that Vince Carter was constantly working on Cat to sign in Toronto, and I think that part of the lure for Cat was the presence of his buddy Alvin Williams. Now I wonder if we're considering Cat for Alvin Williams. This trade might not be a bad idea. Alvin isn't a true point, but he is more familiar with a foreign concept called PASSING THE G.D. BALL. Toronto will have a high draft pick to grab someone who can handle the rock. In Alvin Williams and Steve F., we would have two solid combo guards, Steve as our Iverson, Alvin as our Snow...? Perhaps?
Alvin Williams is a steady PG with good size, and Eric Snow who can actually hit threes enough to keep the opponents D honest. We don't need a playmaker--in the event Steve is moved to the 2 we need someone who can guard opponents SGs, a decent spot up shooter, and someone who makes sound fundamental decisions--Williams fits the bill. Personally I am not sold on moving Steve to the 2, but if you are going to a backcourt mate like Alvin Williams is exactly what we need. Williams and Mobley are also very close in market value--so a direct trade with Toronto or 3-way if Toronto doesn't want another SG would make a lot of sense. I think a lot would depend on the directions Toronto does this offseason (drafts a PG, moves Carter or Peterson, etc.). Personally, if I am them I would start anew and trade Carter, Davis and maybe Williams while their stock is high.
ROXTXIA, Cat for Williams would be a fairer proposal, in terms of value, and IMO, Williams would be perfect for the Rockets; a top perimeter defender, above-average passer, and consistant scorer, who has great hustle and heart. However, the Raptors are not out for another SG, and Mobley's presence in the lineup would just create a log jam in that position. Also, with the top pick, the Raptors will not be looking to acquire a PG, even if Williams is gone. If they have a top three pick, they acquire either Milicic/Anthony/James; if the happen -unlikely as it is- to drop to 4-5, they would go for a PF like Bosh. Considering that, and the fact that T.J. Ford will not declare for this year's draft, the chances of the Raptors acquiring a PG from the draft, would be very slim. For what its worth, Alvin Williams practically shut down Iverson -if there is such a thing- during the 1999-2000 post season. Williams is as good a defender as Snow, while having the edge in size, scoring, and explosiveness. He is an exceptional dribbler.
Desert Scar, Carter, Davis, and Williams are the tree best players in Toronto, at the moment. The Raptors have stated they won't trade Carter, and are looking to keep Davis, who can fetch the Raptors a A. Foyle, or M. Camby. Among the three, Williams would be the most likely to be moved. The Raptors are banking on Carter to play a duo-ship with the player, acquired from the upcoming draft (i.e. James/Milicic/Anthony).
Are you crazy?!? Cuttino Mobley and Kelvin Cato FOR Alvin Williams and Morris Peterson, Jerome Williams, OR Antonio Davis. Take your pick. Mobley is way better than Williams. If Carter wants Mobley to go there...then he can support the deal and yeah. They would have to give us something good in return...like one of their big men. If the Raptors get one of the high picks...they will get Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony, or some power forward. That means Davis or Williams (Jerome) would probably be moved. Suppose they draft a power forward...then Vince would be small forward. They get Mobley and Cato for Davis or Williams and Williams. Anybody/Hunter Mobley/Anybody! Carter/Morris Peterson One of the power fowards in this draft or Antonio Davis or Jerome Williams Kelvin Cato or Antonio Davis/Michael Bradley/some loser I still don't think anything will happen. Cuttino Mobley and Glen Rice for Alvin Williams and Antonio Davis would work though.
Yes, actually, I am a little crazy! The trade you mention appears a little too Rox-favored. I don't think Cat for A. Williams is so far-fetched. Cat scores more, Alvin plays a little better in the team concept, and I am all for the latter. Unleash Steve at the 2 and get Yao the ball more and we won't have to worry much about the point differential between the two players.
You know, he actually may be available if Toronto drafts Lebron or Carmelo. Mo Pete would be a great fit. I'd also look hard at Voshon Lenard as a free agent. Great 3 pt shooter off the bench.
lol...there's still Voshon Lenard! Mobley and Terence Morris for Alvin Williams and Morris Peterson would be happy. Mobley and Cato for Alvin Williams and Voshon Lenard would be nice too.
