Except I didn't even drink. I forgot to turn on the headlights because they are the automatic kind except they were off. I was so nervous and scared I doubt I could have passed a field test, but luckily the officer just let me go.
Yeah, there's probably no way they can slap you with a DUI or DWI if you didn't have any alcohol in your system. Next time just be casual, since you were innocent in the first place you had nothing to worry about. But good lord, turn on the headlights
I never thought I was going to get one, but I had the same situation earlier this year. Dawn-ish, my girlfriend had been drinking the night before, I didn't touch a thing (I do drink, just not that night), and we had to hit the highway to get home around 8am or so. On the way, her drunk ass wanted some food, so we stopped at a Steak and Shake where I took my contacts out. With fingers full of french fry salt. Whoops. So my eyes were red, stoner-red (I don't smoke anything, ever). Then this friggin' VW Beetle (my least favorite car in the world) who was on my ass for a mile and a half comes up about a foot behind me while I'm gradually passing this truck on a 70 mph SL highway. I was probably doing 82 or so while passing. Anxious to get this jag in a flippin' Beetle off of me, I gun it and end up hitting 88 (by my count), and at least 85 (by the police officer's count). Police pull me over, make no mention of that blue Beetle, smell my gf's rum breath which I couldn't really smell ("we could smell it as we approached the vehicle, sir"), and give me a hard time because of my -- extremely red, I should mention -- eyes. So they ask me to leave the car, etc etc. As soon as I step out of the car, I ask (politely) if they can give whatever blood alcohol test they have on them, knowing that this will absolve me. No dice. I have to walk the line, I have to stand on one foot (which sucks, because one of my knees is absolutely shot) for a spell, and follow an officer's index finger through my glasses with the rising sun absolutely blinding me in back of his shoulder. No fun, at all. All while stone cold sober, mind you. Failing, miserably. Finally lets me blow in the straw, I register nothing, I'm allowed to go home. I was speeding, I make no bones about it, and deserved the ticket for going 85 in a 70. But I still don't know why they waited a good quarter mile to catch and pull me over while that stupid bug flew ahead of me, and I shot back down to 78 on the cruise control in the right lane as soon as I let that POS "car" get by. In retrospect, I'm so, so glad they didn't make me recite the alphabet backwards, because I can't do that at any hour of the day.
You must have been hiding something if you were that scared. I have my money on either a military grade weapon or 3 lbs of weed.

After I read all the crap about the cops I am scared about them. I mean I have been pulled over once in my entire life for speeding. All the stories I read they seem to be out to get you. The officer seemed nice so I am not complaining.
You don't have to have hookers, weed, weapons, and/or alcohol in a car to be scared of being pulled over. I'm scared of cops when I'm passing them at traffic lights even when I'm going the speed limit, rofl. I was in my friend's neighborhood thurs night after the rockets game. It's an ok neighborhood, but they've got that neighborhood office patrol deal and the cop was sitting outside probably eating donuts or something on his comp pulled over on the main neighborhood street. I slowed down before I passed him because I forgot my shirt and was wondering if the officer would pull me over just because I turned back to get my shirt in a so-so neighborhood at night. Granted, maybe I'm a little paranoid but I've never been pulled over once and I've never gotten so much as a speeding ticket. I just don't trust them.
Happened to me before. I was dodging potholes and forgot to signal turning onto my street. Once they figured out I wasn't drunk they let me go. Funny in hindsight.
I still don't see how the OP could have come to the conclusion of almost getting a DWI. You didn't take a field test and you never mentioned anything about taking a blood alcohol test. Were you scared because he asked you if you were drinking? That's an almost standard question when getting pulled over at night time.
